The Lehaye is great for hockey. Keep it over there!! BUT, when they remodeled it, they put two many rows of florescent lights. The rows of lights over where the spectators sit, they are too bright!! But it would cost them NOTHING to fix it. Just remove the bulbs from the two rows of lights that go over both sides of seats. Leave the rest in, so the rink is still light up. It would be much nicer!!! Plus Lehaye is the only area where the volume needs to be turned down a slight notch. I say this as a person that goes to a couple of ice hockey games every year...and I really enjoy them, regardless.

That is 100% correct where men's hockey is concerned. Women's hockey is another matter. Moving to NCAA there would actually solve Title IX problems. I just can't imagine that they would make that move with the women and keep the men a club program, but frankly, the women's team has had more success, and it would be easier and less expensive than starting a gymnastic's program. Stranger things have happened. Of course both programs moving to NCAA hockey would at least theoretically be a wash where title IX is concerned, leaving us with 22 extra football scholarships to compensate for with sports like golf, gymnastics and???
Rifle. With the new facility they built makes sense.

But liberty can easily move both its programs up if they wanted to and be in compliance with Title IX

Rifle and women's golf would be the 2 easiest. Facilities are in place and we might not even need a coach right away for golf. Give Thomas a raise and have him do both. The 2 hockey teams would cancel each other out, but I do think we will need to add some schollies on the women's side fairly soon to account for the increase in football.

I understand our president's brother is (or at least was) quite the marksman. Maybe he could moonlight as rifle coach.

Criswell or Jeffress Arena if you follow the same idea behind the Vines name....

I'm surprised none of you have recommended Tim Scarborough Arena yet...call it the SCAR.

You lost me on that first part. Maybe they can name the table where the TV guys sit after SCAR.

OK, I think I got you now G-Webb. The Vines Center was paid for by Art Williams, and was named in honor of his wife's parents. I don't believe they have anything to do with the concordance/bible dictionary. 8)

I don't know about that, but it does raise a question. Does the new arena now take over the "Furnace" nickname? I would think so, although to my recollection we never used that name til we moved to the Vines. I believe it was Meyer's brain child, and he pushed it hard for several years. It seems to have fallen out of favor as the game atmosphere has "cooled". Hopefully the new digs will help rekindle it.

What awesome gimmick from a top 25 program can we steal?

Nah, that was JB's deal. So far it looks like Ian has more originality.

SCAR is too humble to want his name on display 8) , but he probably would suggest the Alston Arena for his SG. :oldhag Sly might even vote for the name.

I believe I may be having a first in the history of FlameFans/A Sea of Red in correcting CJ's spelling if he is indeed referencing Bailey Alston. Then again everyone knows how much I love the capital of Texas.

Since English spelling rules do not apply to proper names, I give Cider a pass on that one.

Sly, guilty as charged. I didn't think that looked right, but I should have fact checked it. My only excuse is that I'm on Spring Break. :brownbag

As for naming new arena, the best way to go may be to sell naming rights. That way building gets a name, and LU gets some $$$$$$.
That's what some other schools/teams have done.

I think JLFJR has shown he prefers not to go this route, and I tend to agree with him in our current circumstances. Apparently the funds are there without it, and this way a major donor, whether private or corporate, cannot use that leverage to try to exert influence over future decisions. It's something we had to do in the past, and we were blessed with wonderful christian donors like Art Williams, Art DeMoss, and Tim LaHaye, who for the most part did not attach strings to their gifts, but that's not always how it turns out.

I wish we had people in our past athletic history - or school history even - that were significant enough to name some of the new buildings after. Having buildings named gives them an elevated, classier feel. That said, im all in on not naming them after major donors or corporate sponsors unless we have to.

Agree. Honoring someone in that way for their accomplishments and the positive image they give to the school is an entirely different thing than rewarding someone for a monetary contribution.

I think it comes with time. We will get there. RMK Is laying those kinds of roots. We are just starting to get Hall of Fame names at the school that we all recognize. We are really just scratching the surface of Legacy athletes at LU. These things happen in generations. The first graduating class was tiny compared to the thousands that are graduating now. In 25 years, there will be tens of thousands of high schoolers with legacy ties to LU. There just aren't relatively that many now.

In May LU will have their 45th Commencement. Be good time to announce that new arena will be named after the 45th President of the United States.
