Just joking around, I meant scrimmage--obviously.

um some flashes. Blair is blair. I like Brew's game. There were too many fouls to begin the game. The players weren't flowing to begin but showed some fluidity down the stretch.

eh..

Nobody really stood out except for TJ Bannister, who is going to be a heckuva player in the Big South. Kyle Ohman is really going to be a solid player for us. Jenkins looked bad, real bad.

I thought it was good. I left a little after the second half to watch The Office (funniest show on tv), but I'd have to agree that the first half didn't have too much flow, but they're still getting into the swing of flames. Blair looked good as always and D-Brew was amazing... as was Bannister. If only he could play this season.... there could be three Killer B's instead of two. I thought Alex McLean was good, as well as B.J. Jenkins. Me and my friend Jeff watched it and was reminiscing about 03-04 and how crazy the Vines was that season. Sarchet, Mantlo, Sneed, Martin, Glyn "The Mailman" Turner, Dees... the Jeff Riber fan club. The time during the Coastal game Brian Woodson crossed over the one guy and messed up his ankle then dished it to Larry for the three and everyone was chanting "BROKE YOUR ANKLES" and when we mobbed the court after beating High Point by 45 on ESPN.

Holy crap, in 10 years I'm going to be just like the old guys on this board who always talk about the good ol' days. I'll be reliving my freshman year... and hopefully my senior year this year. :)

I was only there for the first half. My kid got antsy and I think my wife realized I tricked her into going. Some thoughts:

It was very sloppy and painful to watch. I guess this is to be somewhat expected since it was just a scrimmage and there were some bright spots but man, that was ugly.

Larry Blair Dude is good. He looks anxious to get his team more involved. Most of the time if he just decides to shoot it instead, he scores.

Alex McLean This guy is a manchild. I came away really really impressed with him. He's probably a tad shorter than I'd want in the post but I guess in the BSC it doesn't matter too much. He is very strong and can pretty much muscle his way to the rim. I think he is going to be the biggest difference this year

Russle Monroe He still is not playing up to his potential but he is looking more assertive. He got beat on a couple of rebounds that should have been his which baffles me since he's 5 feet taller than everybody else but he also had a few good swats and was getting off some shots, which was nice.

Dwight Brewington He didn't play as well as I thought he would. He is very quick though. I will definatly like him as a PG if that's where Dunton is planning on using him. A big question for me in regards to his play is what type of refs we get. The guy pushes off more than JJ Redick. If you can get away with it, which he was, you definatly leave yourself a good shot. Everytime he drove in, he'd push off of his defender with his off hand as he stopped. Still, he will most likely be all that we thought he was.

Rell Porter The offense is still not there. It's frustrating to watch a guy hussle so hard in every aspect while he's out there and he just doesn't finish when he's got the ball. He is fun to watch though.

Tyler Baker He looked good at times. So our friend may be right (in saying he's gonna be great), but he certainly wasn't great yesterday. He's pretty well built so he'll be a force if he decides to use it like our McLean friend, but I guess you can just consider him a Freshman.

Everybody else I either forgot about or I had no idea who they were. So many new faces. There was this little white guy #34 who, when you take him at face value, looks like he's just some guy who wandered on the court. Not that he was lost out there, very much the opposite, he just doesn't look like a basketball player. He had to have been under 6 feet. But anyway, he is scrappy. He was always in good position and fighting for the rebounds, which is funny because he was so much shorter than everybody else. Or at least he looked it. But he could be another fan favorite.

I guess I was watching a different game.

Tyler got pushed around way too much. The only positive he really brought to this team as a R-freshman was his outside shooting in which he was off badly everytime.

McClean is possibly the goofiest looking person in the world while running but I concur, he's a manchild.

I'm curious to hear about your compliments to Jenkins. I thought he played awful. He was getting destroyed on defense and didn't show much offense, except one deep three at the end of the second overtime.

Oh hey, I forgot "The Future" Anthony Smith. He wasn't too spectacular. Looked better on offense which is promising. Didn't notice that he was playing exceptional on defense ala last year. But hey, I think everybody was just rusty and not where they need to be right now.

huh? I didn't really say anything complimentary about Baker. Just that he's well built and that gives him potential. Also I was only there the 1st half.

In regards to Jenkins, if I didn't mention them in my write up they were most likely unimpressive. I did notice a lack of any decent ballhandling from anybody. And if there was some decent dribbling like for example, Brew being our future PG, I noticed has some nice moves, but I think he was traveling a lot of the time. But I guess refs arent really as strict on palming as they should be. 2 overtimes huh? Sounds exciting.

Were the teams running offensive plays last night or was it free style??

They were running the motion.

Pretty effective, IMO. It will serve better than 'get the ball to LB and stand around and watch while he makes a play' offense they ran last season.

First scrimmages are always ugly. Who care if it is a long night against Barton. It doesn't count and who gives a rip. The team will be fine and I bet we'll be looking at 17-19 wins come March and the B/W scrimmage and Barton exhibition will all be forgotten.
(see LUconn, I can be positive occasionally)

You're right. I'd probably feel much different if I could see the team. It just sounds much worse on
"paper, the screen". I'm sure they'll be fine.
