Game #1: Covenant

A new season is here and we tipoff against something named Covenant. I anticipate this is one of the couple of games the Flames will end up winning this season. They don't have a guy over 6'6 which helps us in the paint, but who really knows how far the defense has progressed from the disaster that was last year.
Liberty: 61
Covenant: 55

My first alma mater, an NCCAA school, used to play Covenant every year, and we used to beat them like a drum 35 years ago. I used to love that drive up Lookout Mountain to their games.
Covenant lost to Chattanooga in an exhibition, 91-63. This should definitely be a WIN for LU tonight! And the first 5,000 fans get a free T-shirt.
In case ballcoach, BJ, and others want to scout them, here is a link to Covenant's under-sized roster:

I won´t disagree that last year was a disaster, but we beat all of our non D1 opponents by 18 points or more. I don´t do score predictions, but I certainly hope we can beat Covenant by more than 6.

Chatanooga is really good, and despite losing their coach to VCU they are picked to win the SoCon. Surprised they only won by 30. Covenant may be better than we are thinking.

The Castle in the Clouds could have been the location of your first alma mater, CJ. But Roberson was dead set on keeping the school in the dredges of downtown when the Lookout Mountain location was offered up for free. The rest as they day is history.
I believe we have had several players transfer to Covenant and nearby Lee College from our hoops program over the years.

During the Meyer era those schools, along with Kentucky Christian were the places Jeff contacted to look for an opportunity for players he could see were not going to fit into our future plans. It looks to me like Layer had a similar arrangement with Limestone.

Sadly, I've heard that story for 35 years. Fortunately, Doc was wise enough to move LBC away from Thomas Road, and the church eventually followed. One school closed; the other has 15,000 resident students and somewhere around 100,000 online students.

Aren't you thinking of Summit, Olldflame? That school (formerly known as Baptist Bible College & Seminary) is also the alma mater of my Lynchburg residing grandfather. Of course when he went to school there it was located in NY before it moved to PA.
I believe my dad may have been a student at the time of the offer back in the '60s. Lookout Mountain would have been an incredible place to go to school. In fact, I very likely might have wound up going there instead of LU. But alas ...

Looks to be a starting lineup of Fields, Cabbil, Kemrite, Reid and Maxwell. With Hoffman hurt, will be interesting to see how deep McKay goes on the bench, especially until Dawson is eligible. Talbert is a definite and most likely Atensia and Homesley. My guess is those 8 are the primary rotation. Let's get this ball tipped!

Those 8 are all of our eligible scholarship players til the semester is over and Dawson can play.

Going to be a LONG year, but I think we already knew that. Best of all, we pulled out the win.

Covenant stayed in the game by hitting NINE 3s. Box Score:

Attendance listed at 5,039, which means 39 people left without a free T-shirt.
