When practice formally starts, will we have any form of "Mid-night Madness" ?

Haunted Hoops, on either October 30th, more likely since that's a Friday, or Halloween.

Haunted Hoops was started during DL´s tenure. No way of knowing whether Ritchie will want to continue it or go in another direction.

Our hoops program was haunted for the last few years. I think that is an idea that should be dropped.

Wasn't RM wanting some type of success before we began a Midnight Madness tradition the last time he was here?

Our first MM goes way back to the Hilldebrand/Aluma era. They did it for a few years. The first one actually had a lot of people there, the Vines was about half full. A lot more than we have attending most games now. It must have been during Homecoming because I was there and wouldn't have made the drive up from Raleigh, just for that.
I would think we would want to have some success before starting that up again.

Midnight Madness type events are generally a waste of time if there is not a baseline level of excitement over the program. I suspect Ritchie will hold off at least a year. The other thing to consider is that the highlight of all these events at the high major level are dunking contests/exhibitions. Other than Theo, I really don´t think we have much in the way of dunking talent right now. Maybe Dawson as well.

my freshman year we had midnight madness at the old schilling..and it was PACKED. Falwell Sr and Toby Mac were judges for the dunk contest..it was a lot of fun...maybe 2k people there but it was small so the energy in there was awesome..doing it at the Vines is a bad idea..so is playing our season games in the vines..just leaves much to be desired when 1800 people are there in a 9k arena..

Do you remember who hosted that event? I'm hearing he was extremely talented

That was my freshmen year too. It was during CFAW as well and it was a lot of fun.

I am hoping we draw more than 1800 to Vines Center this season. 1800 fans is embrassing for any NCAA D1 school.

The past couple seasons I can understand why we not draw well.

Speaking of practice, here´s an interview with Ritchie and AC Reid talking to York about how things are going.

The team should get a good boost when Dawson joins the team around for the Dec 17 Princeton NJ game.

(Semester ends the 12th-14th ish)

Actually according to the academic calendar on the registrar page the semester ends December 18 so Dawson will be eligible December 19 and can play December 20 against St Francis (NY)

Just started following Liberty Bball and decided to join. I have great respect for Coach McKay. I hope he can get the program off the ground. Does anyone know if all the players are healthy?

I´m not aware of any current injuries, but Ezra Talbert was medically redshirted last year after having back surgery. Supposedly all went well, but back problems have a way of coming back, especially with tall people. With our overall lack of size, I believe we need a healthy Talbert to reach our potential this season.

Looks like the closest thing we will have to ¨midnight madness¨ will be ¨noon sanity¨, AKA ¨fan fest¨. It will be held on 10/24 (homecoming) at noon, and will feature a scrimmage by the men´s team and a meet and greet of both men´s and women´s players after on the concourse.

Not a lot of size on this team. It'll be an interesting year.

We have the ability to play a lineup with decent size (Maxwell, Talbert and Theo), but I don´t expect to see that a lot. One thing we learned from Ritchies last tenure as HC is that he does not restrict himself to a lineup where each player fits the mold of a specific 1-5 position. He will put the best 5 guys out there, and that may mean we see a lot of small ball, especially after Dawson becomes eligible. I certainly expect a more entertaining brand of basketball than we have seen the last couple of years, and at least marginally better results.

That's not really a high bar :D
