I nominate Jonathan Edwards as honorary coach for this game. He may not know a single thing about basketball, but he'll sure entertain with the fire and brimstone antics.

Wow  Difficult to argue with those numbers. I don't think even Rooster or BJ could put a positive spin on that article. Very fair and balanced though. My only quibble (you knew if have at least 1) are the attendance numbers. I am 100% positive that Lang accurately reported the numbers he was given. I just doubt the veracity of the numbers he was given.

Flames down 13-6 after the first five minutes. Retic just entered the game!

Instead of using a timeout to teach the team or motivate them, Layer spends the timeout yelling at the official.

The ladies game is tape delayed on DishNetwork, channel 264 (KTV), with LU hockey to follow at 8:30.

Men's score: LU down 40-28 with 18 minutes left.

73-58 now, we went for a alley oop but the shot went in. Pretty funny

Fouling down 12 with 11 seconds left. Dale Layer continues to mystify the world.

77-67, Gardner-Webb wins. Surprisingly, Layer ends the game with 2 timeouts left.

Time for change

I'm speechless. I've quietly watched this team stink it up all season and it's time to go in a new direction.

Say what you will but I would not be surprised if he is back next year

I am a little worried about it as well. It is hard to imagine we would not make a change, but who knows. The excuse could be made regarding injuries, etc. if they want to keep him. I believe you have to eventually cut your losses and move on, the sooner the better.

LU only loses 2 players and they are easily replaced. If DL (or his agent) have ANYsales skills at all, he would be back.
'Look, you are going to have to pay me one way or the other. If I'm retained I finally have an opportunity to do so with an entirely healthy roster. Let me finish with these guys and if I don't get it done then the next guy will have plenty of room to bring in his own players. If you let me go this year, the new coach is going to have to play with my players this year and then have an empty cupboard the following year. Of course, I plan on making another Tournament run and next year at this time we will be discussing a new contract'
Maybe I should have been an agent

Even without injuries, we probably still lose 20 games.

But you don't know that. The team was never given a chance to find out. Look at our bench and who is sitting out. Add in Ezra and our transfer that Tech didn't want and you've got some talent

Some observations from being there this evening:

(1) Y'all have been talking about talent level disparity. Frankly, from the team that I saw two years ago to tonight, the drop off is noticeable.

(2) Your team has not quit on its' coach. They played with good effort all night.

(3) Layer is a coaches kid, but has no business playing as much as he does.

(4) The alley oop was classic, happened directly in front of me, pure swish.

(5) One of these days I'm going to get to meet Lang and buy him a malt beverage, but not in Boiling Springs of course.

(6) You saw our deficiencies on the defensive side of the ball this evening, that is why we won't go far in Myrtle Beach. If LU had at least one reliable outside shooter, we well could have lost.

(7) After the crowds had thinned out, observed Craft and Layer having a long conversation down on the court. Who knows what was discussed, maybe a spot on the GW staff next season? Hmm.....

Highly unlikely. Probably some sincere but generic words of encouragement from Craft and compliments from Layer. We pretty much know where DL's next stop will be if he gets canned.

We've lost 20 games for three years in a row. We have never been healthy since Layer has been here. It's been six years.

2 years ago, ODU fired coach Blaine Taylor in the middle of the season after a 2-20 start. They named an assistant as the interim HC for the rest of the season and finished 5-25. They then went out and hired the head coach from American University, Jeff Jones. As many of you know, Jones was also the coach at UVA back in the 90's and had several successful years. In just his second year, ODU is 20-6, and playing in a conference that is better than the one they were in two years ago.

Good coaches don't need six years to turn around a program. There is no reason to wait on this, we are only prolonging the inevitable. Can him now.
