Man. Chris described Gardner-Webb as streaky and unpredictable the other day, but Winthrop is just as bad about that. They beat Clemson down there, then lost to Savannah State on the road. They blew up Asheville, but blew second-half leads to GW and Radford. What a crazy team.

Chris also mentioned Okeke, but Xavier Cooks is also big for them. He's already been named Freshman of the Week once, and he offers an "unusual set of skills" (sorry, "my daughter got taken as a hostage" movies) as a 6'8" guy who can play both the wing and the post.

We have a chance, we ALWAYS have a chance...and our chances of winning go up if Winthrop has an off night and we could actually pull it off...but I'm still positively expecting another L. I'm going to keep my expectations low so I can be pleasantly surprised when (or if) I'm proven wrong.

Cooks has been learning to play in the post due to depth issues up front for WU with James Bourne and Larry Brown out for the season...his skill set is mostly of a wing player, and offensively, he's most effective driving to the basket as opposed to posting up. Defensively, he lacks bulk, but has exceptional length and basketball IQ, so he's able to block a lot of shots and deflect/steal passes pretty well.

But as to your first point, this WU team can't seem to string together success...after every good win or performance, they turn around and lose. All three conference losses have been games that WU either blew a big lead (GWU/RU) or had chances to ice the game at the end and failed (HPU). Though to be fair, WU won close games against Longwood and PC that could have gone the other way, so WU could be anywhere from 6-0 to 1-5 in conference play just by changing one play in 5 of the 6 games.

Winthrop can score. They've had 60+ points in 12 of their 14 DI games. Liberty has done so just 5 times.
They've scored 70+ 7 times. Liberty has done so just twice.

The key is whether a second scoring option avails itself if Keon Moore gets shut down. Moore's an all-conference performer for a reason. Keon Johnson had 20-plus the other day, and Radford still beat them. Their defense is also an issue, at times.

The defense had been playing pretty well in conference games until the Radford game, when WU couldn't get a stop at all.

For us to win, Wintrop has to not come to play.

I never mentioned forfeit. Teams have been known to show up but not come to play.

.

Well, you didn't, but I fixed it for you. If Winthrop players walk on our court, I think a loss is common sense... maybe I'm just too skeptical!

You have the wrong Keon pictured in #3. That's Keon Johnson. Keon Moore wears jersey #10.

Too many Keons will spoil the broth.

It's something to the effect of "see how far we can let the defense push us towards halfcourt and throw up a hail mary with 2 seconds left on the shot clock."

Honestly, it looks like a UCLA set and a 4-1 set. The problem is no one is looking at the cuts.

Mini Stephan A is annoying

The players are paying about as much attention to DL as Ruth Bader Ginsberg and as excited as John Boehner at the SOTU Address
