I thought I would start this here instead of the hoops forum since its still in season but the general sentiment is that as nice a guy as coach Layer is, he is gone after this season.

Some names to start

Jason Allison- Appalachian State
Tim Craft- Gardner-Webb

Once the season is over this can be moved into the hoops section if it isn't moved immediately

Hiring someone from another Big South School is a horrible idea
I like JA but he has ties to previous staff's and we wouldn't want that

I think Zach Spiker at Army is someone we could look at. I would love to see LU make a push to acquire Jeff Boals from Ohio State, but also we shouldn't look past Purple or ballcoach :o. In all seriousness, I hope Barber doesn't just pull out the giant page of failed high major coaches, close his eyes, and point to a random spot. Heaven forbid he ends up pointing towards Oliver Parnell, Buzz Peterson or Bobby Lutz.

I hope we ask someone other than Bill Carr.

You're the second person to mention Spiker. I think that he would be a great hire. Did some more research on him and it seems like he would be a good fit at Liberty.

Definitely, although it will be very difficult to get him to come here if say George Mason, Fordham, or even a bottom feeder in C-USA or the WCC tries to get him.

I think so too. In my opinion, it would be a longshot. But if he is at all interested, we need to give him a long hard look.

I have to admit that I find it unsavory to be talking about replacements while a coach is still trying to get kids to play in the middle of a season.

Then don't talk about them. See? I'm a problem solver!

I once applied for a basketball staff job at a D1 school. Withdrew because I figured that HC would get fired at end of season.............and he did.

Thats partly why I hoped it would stay in the non-LU sports for the time being

No, what would be wrong is if members of the team and/or support staff or the AD's office were on here talking about it. This is a message board for fans, we are free to talk or not talk about what ever we like –no one is forcing you to be here or to engage in the conversation. If you're so inclined, there's probably something on Ladies Home Journal.com about the newest Apple pie recipe that might be more your speed. el oh el, I hope we can still be BFFs

Have you listened to him do a game? Plus, I have been told that we sound exactly alike

I'll beat this dead horse again, y'all are nuts if you don't at least give Josh Schertz down at Lincoln Memorial a look. They are only 14-0 so far this season and #4 in the nation D-2. He has the previous ties to the Big South on Lundy's staff at HPU, and it was when he left for LMU that the wheels fell off for Lundy at HPU.

http://lmurailsplitters.com/coaches.asp ... ath=mbball

Heck, at this point, even Lundy himself over at Queens in Charlotte would be an upgrade although his return last season was only 14-13, and they currently are only 9-5.

Yes, and he certainly has the pedigree. But he also seems content with TV/radio and hasn't coached since 2008.
