Just listened to the post game wrap up while driving to Norfolk for my game tomorrow night. Great to hear your voice as always.

What's the reason for the switch?

Doesn't this mean we lose a huge portion of coverage we got from being on WRVL? We go from having coverage almost all over Virginia and parts of NC to Lynchburg and Roanoke. Can't imagine the athletic department was behind this.

I know that there was a rebranding/reformating at WRVL to The Journey, but this move doesn't make sense to me. Almost all of Virginia/parts of NC>Roanoke/Lynchburg. :dontgetit

This is bigger than just basketball. This will be football too.

Doesn't WLNI broadcast VT football and basketball games and WFIR broadcasts Virginia football and basketball?

New audience? Just because a station can reach more homes doesn't mean it is actually reaching more listeners.

If your in the Roanoke area wfir is strong on the am dial. I'll miss the wrvl 88.3 after so long. I think it was done with a design to pick up more regional interest in the flames. They moved the call in show to an 1240 and we've advertised heavily on wfir and ESPN radio locally with the flames minute. I think there just lining up everything. We still have to have a relevant product for people to listen to basketball. I think quite a few people listen. Actually they listen for football only.

I guess that WLNI and WFIR will be dropping from the VT Sports Network and Virginia Sports Radio Network, respectively.

PXP , can you just answer questions on here, for all of us to read, vs. giving your email ?

Randy Smith from WSET, maybe he had a say in getting the Radio coverage chagned over.

My guess is that he can't. Some of the other old hags remember our good friend fsn32 and how he had to stop posting due to his broadcast duties and what not

For those who are concerned, I encourage you to send an email. I did. I see this as not only making it harder for me to hear games but really hurting new fan growth across the state.

I imagine that they will continue the audio streaming as before.

PxP already confirmed this in the first post - "The games will still be available online and your smartphone through LibertyFlames.com and most mobile apps."

Sorry it's taken a day or so to reply. Prepping for the Flames' game at Campbell has taken my attention this week. Victory FM is now called The Journey. The format and programming has changed some, prompting LU athletics to find a new home for Flames' basketball on the radio. The first game on WLNI will be this Saturday night. Yes, WLNI will continue to carry VT hoops. There are three scheduled games near the same time with VT and LU coming Jan 22, Feb 21 and Feb 28. Those three LU games will be broadcast back on the Journey statewide network. We encourage those outside of the LYH-ROA markets to log-on to LibertyFlames.com to access our audio streams on your laptops, tablets and smartphones.

You can email LFSN@Liberty.edu with questions or comments. Thanks for your passion for Liberty Flames athletics and for watching and listening to our broadcasts on LFSN TV and radio.

Yea not sure why all the changes. It's not like we need another christian radio station in town. This whole thing seems counter productive. Why would LU give up using it's own radio station to promote it's products? That'd be like saying "yea we're going to stop using WTLU to promote Liberty and stop broadcasting sports games, and instead make it a shopping network 24/7!"

I wish 88.3 had left the Flames on the station. Since Jerry Edwards retired, 88.3 has slowly gone downhill in my opinion, in just about every facet of the programing. At one time I listened to the station several hours a day. Now all I listen to is Adrian Rogers at 1030 p.m. and J. Vernon McGee early in the morning.

I loved Jerry Edwards. He's the type of person you want doing your football games on Radio. Huge mistake taking him off that. He'd be and was much better than the color guy we have now
