The architect of d1 basketball at LU returned to campus for the first time since he was an assistant at Winthrop 16 years ago. The reason........ to present his favorite point guard for induction in the Hall of Fame. had to be an emotional moment for both Jeff and Hildo.

Too bad he wasn't inducted

I'm not 100 percent certain but I don't think he's actually eligible right now since he is still an active coach. 5 years after he retires he should be an automatic.

I don't think that is a consideration. But whenever he is inducted, he will be the highlight of the class.

There are politics involved.

Could be, but who is still around that would have any axe to grind with Jeff?

It's Liberty. It doesn't matter who's still around.

Jon's right...it could be 30 or 40 years down the road and if he isn't in the HOF he isnt going to be

Reread my post and forgot to add this...whatever politics are in play will probably still be at that point, even with a brand new administration in those 30 or 40 years. that may be bitter and petty but some people have either elephant level memories or know how to get people who may not have been involved on their side

I spent some time around the basketball team this weekend (as a fan and former Flame since I'm no longer on LFSN), and Coach Layer asked me how we go about getting Meyer into the Hall. I think it is going to happen.

I had the honor of sitting with Coach during the ceremony. We talk throughout the year over the years but it is always nice to catch up in person.

All 5 inductees tugged on our heartstrings this weekend though. It was a great night!

Timeout...no longer with LFSN? our favorite analyst won't be waxing poetic during LU games about players or his awesome ETSU dunk from back in the day?

BJ - Old news. We all are still getting used to the idea.

As for Coach Meyer, the hall is still a relatively new phenomenon at the school. They are spreading the higher profile inductees from football & hoops over several years. I suspect Coach Meyer's name will be called somewhere in the not so distant future.

I don't have a lot of Twitter followers but I did put it out there a couple of weeks ago. The word is slowly getting out. I am sad that I won't be around the program that I helped build and have covered for 11 seasons but they have decided that my services are no longer needed. I do have other outlets that have already committed to getting me into the rotation this season in other conferences so stay tuned.

As for Meyer getting into the Hall, he is definitely on the list. The issue is that we are playing catch up. The Hall is only 6 years old. They are trying to back fill folks who have deserved it and they know they have several candidates that should already be in but they are only doing 5 per year. They don't want it to be dominated each year by any sport either. So you won't see 4 baseball guys go in at once. The only criteria I have heard spelled out besides what I just stated is that they will probably have at least 1 football player go in every year.

twitter is not an official news source to the great BJWilliams, you'll have to excuse him. Though I am surprised to hear it was LU's choice. Seems odd. Asking too much money!!??? haha

They told me it wasn't about performance. They just want to use their internal folks. I can't control that so I have to accept it and move on. I saw it coming a few months ago when they brought in the Game On team. But part of me was still surprised and disappointed. But truthfully It just may be time for me to move on. The opportunities that are on the table to work in even better leagues is really exciting for me. Don't worry, I will come on here and tell you guys whenever I am on the air.

Thanks for the info Scar, that clears up a lot of things. I just thought my invitation got lost in the mail. :)

As deserving as Hildo may be, I would think on a level playing field Meyer should get in before him.

Interesting. IT didn't even occur to me until Dale said it on Saturday. I concur whole heartedly that he should be in though.

In other words, volume won't be a problem.

A Google search wasn't much help in learning about Clement Townsend. Who can tell us more about him?

He's the guy doing all the talking on the pregame & postgame shows for the football games. He also is apparently on the Game On show. But I haven't seen that program so that is just what I have heard.
