Just a couple of notes about this game.

One, the brother of Kansas star Andrew Wiggins, is on the roster. http://www.seufire.com/profile.asp?playerID=465

Two, Liberty University graduate and former LCA girls coach, Buddy Mason is an assistant. http://www.seufire.com/profile.asp?playerID=378

Their only NAIA losses are to St. Thomas and Southern Oregon, both of which are great programs. It won't be close but I see a little bit of intrigue.

Yeah, Buddy is the obvious reason for scheduling. Of course, throwing a bone to another Christian school is also a factor. How often do we see PCC as a mutual opponent? And perhaps we need our old friend John Jones to give us a scouting report since he coached against them earlier in the season.

I was surprised to learn that Southeastern was the largest Assemblies college. I would have assumed Evangel at the home office in Springfield would have had that honor. They refer to Southwestern Assemblies of God College here in Texas as SWAG. I smile every time I hear it mentioned. Keep in mind that ORU is not an official member of the Assemblies even though it is essentially AG to the core with nearly their entire student body coming from that background.

That's a different Buddy Mason.

The Buddy Mason you're thinking of is currently the head men's coach at VUL.

Did anyone else think BJ wrote this?

Touché. But I would have thought you would appreciate a discussion involving the Assemblies, SJ. I love the Christmas break ramblings that flow on here from yours truly and others. It is not like there is much of substance to discuss in regard to this matchup.

Um, no. Buddy Mason is my uncle and he used to coach the LCA girls team along with JV boys team, his son played on the JV team as well. He's currently an assistant at SEU.

My apologies. I didn't realize there were two Buddy Masons with ties to this area. I spoke to the VUL Buddy recently when he stopped by the office.

Are they still playing? They have nothing on their website and with all the $$$ issues I didn't know if the Dragons had a team, Men or Women, this year.
(Admit it, you chuckled at Buddy's glasses)

All good. I apologize if I came across as brash. It isn't often you get a chance to correct the scribe. ha.

I'm glad you cleared it up. VUL's men are still playing ... they had a tournament at the armory a couple of weekends ago and played up at VMI earlier this year. Their website is a mess.

A couple of more notes for this weekend.

Dwayne Johnson is questionable for this weekend. He suffered an injury recently, but it doesn't look like anything too serious. As Sly mentioned, he's been there best player to date.

Wiggins has been ineligible all season but is expected to be eligible for the Liberty game. I believe he's struggled with some academics.

Also, Marcus Morrison is expected to play this weekend but he hasn't been eligible this season either. Sounds like these are three of their best players that could be the key to SEU having any chance to keeping this remarkably close, or us blowing them out.

All I'm saying is that I don't think this will be a typical Southern Virginia, Milligan or Greensboro College. SEU has some athletes and I think R-Jay is a great coach. I have bias though. But for those of you who like to question loyalty of anyone who doesn't appreciate the Flames' co-success, I will be pulling for Liberty on Saturday rather than my uncle.

Liberty leads 55-32 heading to the under 16 media timeout

I have to say that Rett McGibbon is showing that he could be a real asset as a broadcaster as he is not just a "hockey broadcaster"

Final score LU 92 SEU 53.

Outstanding game by Joe Retic, who looks like he is really starting to adjust to Layer's system. 12 pts, 5 assists (against only 1 turnover) with 4 steals in just 19 minutes of PT. That's impressive. Don't look now, but Wesley Alcegaire has been extremely productive when he has gotten on the court. Yes, I understand it has been all in "garbage time", but that's not easy to do either.

I thought this games was supposed to be close with all of the athletes they had :dontgetit
Retic numbers don't really tell me anything more than I already know.....I want to see more to get a good feeling. I also find Alcegaire intriguing. Would love to see that kid become our lock down defender. He has the physique for it.
