Well, now that it is official that Jason Eaker is moving on to Mercer and the job has been advertized, does anyone have any info on who the candidates are? FlamesNation has alluded to rumors that there are some coaches with ¨Liberty ties¨under consideration. What former LU player would you like to see on the bench next year?

Jason Allison would be good. SCAR is too valuable behind the mic.

I hadn't thought of Cider but that really makes sense. We would dominate the pre-game quizzing.

I was thinking BJ but I think he is more of a Football guy.
Now that FSPN, or whatever we call it now, is going HD maybe it is time to think about SCAR somewhere else....

Very funny Haize. No coaching for me but I do know a few candidates that are interested in the job that have contacted me about it. I don't think it is right for me to put their names out there though but just know that there are a lot of good people interested in the job and I am sure Dale is going to get a good coach.

Allison has done a great job at VMI, recruiting to a school that is probably a tougher ¨sell¨than LU. I´ll add 2 more who haven´t been mentioned.
Ryan Mantlo, who is HC at Cape Fear JC where Trap Speaks and almost recruit Emmanuel Andrews went.
Julius Nwosu, who I believe is still assisting with the Nigerian national team, and as of a couple of years ago had expressed an interest in coming back to Liberty.

I think Matt Olinger is the right guy for the job...has come up through the ranks..been at LU since 2003. Been doing the job for the past 2 years when Coach G left and this year when Eaker got let go. On top of that he has been doing the DIOP job as well. He has helped bring in a good chunk of the current roster. Time for Layer to give where credit is due!!!

May not be the strongest part of his résumé

Nothing against Matt O., but I really think we would benefit more from an infusión of new blood. Someone with insights and connections the current staff doesn´t have. As far as who gets the credit (or blame) for recruiting the current roster, from what I have heard that would mostly be Eaker.

like the new coach brought in at beginning of the year Vince Walden..who hasnt brought in a recruit yet..and yes helped bring in the team that won the conference tournament and went to the NCAA tourney for the first time since 03-04

I would say it´s a bit premature to pass judgement on Walden´s contributions considering the one schollie we had was already comitted to Kemrite before he was even hired.
If we sign a couple more players this Spring and he is not involved, I would say you may be on to something. On the other hand, the man is one for one in getting to the dance as a college coach.

I love Matt and think he has a huge future ahead of him, but we're replacing the first chair, not the third. I don't know that any of our current coaches are ready to be a first chair guy, so the third chair probably isn't open for Matt. If we were replacing the third chair, and possibly the second, I'd be all for Matt getting it. He's got the chops to be an assistant coach, he's proven that. We just happen to need a first chair. I'll say this though, if it's not Liberty, whatever school gets him will be lucky.

+1 on all points. Personally, if Allison ends up coming over, Id be interested to see if Liberty ends up taking more elements of the VMI run and gun style that they have used up in Lexington.

Jason's not coming here...

Layer has been in the game a LONG time. Guarantee there are people who would like to work for him, who would also LOVE to work at Liberty - both for mission and compensation.

I'd love Jason to come here but like Proto said, I don't see it happening. I think that bridge was burned by Ritchie.

Doubtful. Unless Layer is going to change his entire philosophy. I'd like to see Jason here, but if it is it won't be because they want to be more like VMI

I'd like to see us aim bigger. Snag a young assistant who recruits well off a staff of a solid mid major like Creighton. Someone who potentially could step into the HC role if things don't work out with Layer next season.
