Game #34: Gardner-Webb

The magical run continues as Liberty makes it to Semifinal Saturday for the first time since 2009 and face off with Gardner-Webb for a trip to the finals. Gardner-Webb is making their first ever trip to the semifinals in their fifth season in the conference for basketball and Liberty is making their first appearance since 2009. The Flames and the Bulldogs are meeting for just the second time ever. Fittingly enough, the only time the two met was when Liberty lost to VMI

One odd trivia nugget was GW and Campbell were members of the A-Sun from 2002-2008, and never met in tournament play, but meet in tourney play in CU's second year back in BSC.

I remember our traveling up to the Vines in 2009 to play in the opening round of the tourney, we lost 88-77, you guys were in control from the start, we rallied late to make it respectable. Seth dropped 30 on us.

Since this game is on ESPN 3 instead of ESPN/2/U, we have a chance.

+1 . "He" who shall not be named (redacted). I don't personally mind in the least. Good save.

Are you in Myrtle? I went to check out the women's GW/Liberty matchup tonight. Our girls shot the lights out. Reeves coached em up but they couldn't overcome the Flames hot shooting.

Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon!

Watched the post-game press conference, and Coach Reeves was classy as always, opening the presser by saying that he had been thinking and texting and praying for Coach Green after the death of his father and talked about how he had lost his own father 20 years ago and how he still missed him every day of his life--very emotional and heart felt.

Congrats to Alexis for coaching the LU team to victory in Coach Green's absence!

As for the actual men's game this afternoon, this should be a challenge. Even with 25 points in a half from JC we still couldn't pull off the victory in Boiling Springs last month. But the close call on the road certainly should give our guys confidence that they can run with the #2 seed.

If we advance to the championship game, we certainly will have earned our way there by taking down the three favorites in the field.

Not yet. Might make the drive down tomorrow, job-permitting.

Losing by a mere 3 points means LU is absolutely in the running for a win. Anybody's game at this point. They might be favored, but one could hardly call it an upset if the Flames advance to the finals. Go Flames.

OT- but i've never seen a player carry the ball more than Nimley does and it never gets called. i realize it's like traveling and it rarely gets called but his carries are blatant

Charleston Southern knocks off VMI 71-65 and punches the first ticket to the Big South Championship game tomorrow on ESPN2. Big South PoY Stan Okoye held to 12 points on 4/16 shooting (0/7 from three). VMI as a team only hit 5 three pointers for the game on 28 shots

FWIW, Holtmann just said on pregame that we need to keep Sanders out of the paint and LU from getting out on break. I may lurk back here during the action....

Also, I'm not sure why they're letting Chris Matthews do color. Stick to politics.
