Game #33: High Point

After garnering the first tournament win (on the men's side) since 2009, next up is the top team from the North this year, High Point. I'll let Sly or somebody else work their magic on this thread (which I will admit I was not expecting to be started)

BJ, who was the coach in 2009?

Brown is out for sure. 6-8 weeks. High Point is still going to be tough to beat but I like the odds for Liberty.

If we have a performance as a team like we did on Tuesday night, I think we win this one. High Point finished #1 in the North (and tied with CSU for best record in the conference) for a reason, and though they are without Brown, I have a feeling expectations are very high since HPU has not been past the semifinals since that monstrous loss to LU in 04. If they cant deliver a championship this year, if Coach Cherry isnt fired, you better believe his seat is pretty hot when they get back to HPU.

Not buying the hot seat for Cherry at all BJ. With the injury to Brown, I think he gets a pass at least for another year based on the talent he has recruited and the season they had when everyone was healthy.

What Im saying is that if they dont bring the trophy back to High Point, with the success they had this year, that if he gets next year (which would be year 5 or 6 I forget), its going to be championship or else in 2013-14.

Lets keep this thing going... No need to be positive and ruin this run. We get beat by double digits here. High Point is athletic and shot the ball well. We will need a miracle to stay in this game...

CSU leads Winthrop 52-47 in the closing seconds of the first QF of the day. Winner takes on the winner of VMI-Longwood which will tip around 2:30

I agree with BJ above, I think we win this one. HP isn't the same team without Brown.

For the record I don't care for HP because they do not have football, not to mention their AD did not like a comment I made to him once when we were talking about HP adding football.

Bucs hold on and punch the first ticket to Semifinal Saturday as they defeat Winthrop 54-47 (and somewhere I think Realist is crying a few tears into his coffee).

There's not really much you do like ballcoach, so that doesn't really shock me.

VMI leads Longwood 55-43 at halftime

In another candidate for wildest game of the tournament VMI holds on and defeats Longwood 90-86. The difference? VMI 25-30 from the free throw line, Longwood...21-25.

I think we compete in this game as we have in most conference games this year but I just don't see us winning this one and it will probably be Layer's last game as coach. I love the guy and wished his time had gone better here...he will make a great assistant somewhere
