Gardner Webb has been playing good ball lately. They've won 7 in a row and 10 of 11. But still the tourney should be wide open. No clear cut favorite and anybody can beat anybody. High Point is vulnerable now with John Brown out for the year too should we get past Coastal.

CCU has the rep of being tough at home (12-3 this year) but a fan base that cares about as much as ours does.

so in a tourney setting... who knows.

the question is does OUR team have the cajones to step up their game and (possibly) save their coach?

feels like the last days of Andy Reid to me but what do I know. Apathy surrounding the program is the killer here

I trust SCAR on this stuff and read how he feels the team has the ability to perform. then they go out and more likely than not lay an egg. At some point that becomes a coaching/system problem more than a personnel problem.

I dont know what the solution is. Safe to say the whole league was a mess this year tho

Talking to various media, coaches and even players around the league, most feel Liberty has a lot of potential to do damage. The way they played yesterday at Radford was fun to watch. Marshall was special, they played well as a team and defensively they were tough. Another performance like that will be needed on Tuesday night!

John Caleb Sanders takes a ton of criticism on this board and other places and I have been saying for 3 years that the kid can ball. I think he has proven himself this season playing without his brother. Yes he was shakey in the beginning of the season but he has proven he can be a really tough matchup. I believe he is scoring close to 20 ppg in the last 8 or so and his turnovers are way down.

(I was right about Curry thriving at Duke too but that is for another discussion) 8)

I had conversations with some away from the board that said Coach K would recruit over him and he made a mistake.

JC is doing what he has to do because there is no real true PG that can do what he does with dribble penetration. How can you say he isn't a go to player at this level when he is averaging 17 ppg in conference? I agree that he isn't Anthony Smith or Dwight Brewington or Gabe Martin in terms of athleticism and yes it would be nice to have that type of player playing along side JC but you can't hold that against him.

What's our record again? I will agree that I think he is playing out of position. I just hope he knows it along with the staff. But again, by playing point he is dominating the ball. Ergo my criticism.

I totally understand where you are coming from Haize. All I am saying is that many act like he is terrible or is not a division 1 player or something. I'm not saying you are saying that but I have heard it and I know how wrong that sentiment is. It is going to be fun to watch the backcourt matchup on Tuesday of JC and Davon against Raffa and Greenwood. 2 JRS (Liberty) vs 2 SRS (CCU)

You know you must bow to my coaching prowess! I think where we differ is I feel he is absolutely not a go to D1 player and you think he is. I like his wok ethic and hid effort because without that I would question his D1-ness

After the Richmond game this year, you thought JC sucked.. He has been playing well but it's been late in year against bad comp... I agree with PH, JC should be a 6/7 man on a real good team. As for Curry, he's a shooter and he's about 24 years old... Everyone has read M.O. Of him in the past. I'm not a fan.

He was bad most of the 1st semester and I agree he was awful at Richmond in particular. I think I agree with both you and Haize in that he is probably a 6 or 7th guy on a great team. However given the role he has been put in, I would say that he has shown to be better than what most have given him credit for.

The thing is we don't have anyone else on our roster than can take it to the hole and be a real playmaker (not saying he's great at it). He was awful in the first few weeks but we would have an even worse record without him. I've never been a huge fan of his game but you have to give him props the last few weeks. You can't fault the kid so much for filling a void that the team doesn't have, blame Layer for not getting the players so that he could fit his role. I've said all year that the team has a lot of nice pieces they just don't have the go to lead scorer and a true PG. Now, thats two big missing pieces but if you had these role players around the Curry/Smith team we might've won 32 or 33 games that year.

An unreal year. Sweeping CCU, CSU, and UNCA. 20 wins. Only three years removed from the program being in complete shambles. Holtmann has been masterful.

That being said, I'm picking CSU over CCU in the final. :(
