I was hoping to get down there this weekend but I haven't been home much lately so I'm not gonna make it. This is going to be yet another tough road Challenge. Liberty needs to win both of these to have a chance at one of the top 2 spots. I'm not sure HPU or VMI will lose 7 or 8 games.

I was at VMI @ Longwood last night and it was a dunk-A-thon for VMI. Kessens did put DJ Covington in the hoop with 2 hands on one play but DJ made up for it with is 6 dunks! Each one was nastier than the last. I think VMI had 10 dunks last night.

Longwood had a great crowd though. Tons of students there. Reminded me of the old days when we played in Liberty gym when the whole campus would shut down and everyone would crowd into the gym to watch us play.

We blew another late lead last night at PC. We are 2-7 this season in games decided by two possessions or less, continuing a disturbing trend from the previous two seasons. Who knows what GW team shows up, the one who beat VMI in Lexington, or the one who lost to RU here?

Newsome has been playing some serious ball lately, conference POTW last week, and had 23 last night at PC.

I do like what GW and Coach Holtmann are doing Saturday night.....I don't know if LU 3's will count, but I hope they do, maybe Marshall can chip in a few in a losing cause for y'all. :P

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb men's basketball will take an active role in the fight against child hunger Saturday night when it takes on Liberty in Paul Porter Arena (7:00 pm tip).

The Runnin' Bulldogs and head coach Chris Holtmann are partnering with MANA (Mother Administered Nutritive Aid / mananutrition.com) to provide a case of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for every 3-pointer made in Saturday's game.

If any of you fine folk are heading down for the game, safe travels to you. Hit me up with a PM if you want to say howdy, I will be there with quite a few of alumni friends I haven't seen in awhile.

We are Antwan Burrus away from being pretty good. Our help D, especially from the bigs (it looked like the parting of the seas a few times tonight as GW waltzed into the lane for uncontested layups) and lack of attacking the basket to go after rebounds was pretty apparent tonight. JC led the team in RBs at 6' and is averaging more than Tavares who is 6'4" and gets very few rebounds from the 3. I know he's no Anthony Smith but . . . .

We aren´t good enough to win on the road when Speakes and Marshall both have off nights. This would have been a blowout if it hadn´t been for JC. 25 points in a half must be pretty close to a record.

Strange that Coronado only played 17 minutes on a night we were struggling on the boards. Gielo´s minutes were down too, and he was having a good night.

We had no answer for Sanders. I really liked the looks of Gielo's game, he has a nice touch from the 15-18 foot range. Neither team really got into much of an offensive rhythm last evening, Sanders and Newsome had to do the scoring. We've got our hands full with our next two at UNCA and at Coastal.

Is it really any surprise that one of the Sanders brothers would light it up in Boiling Springs? I mean, they have been doing this for like 7-8 years.

I find it odd that Sanders and Speaks were over 30 minutes for the game and no one else was even at 20. Seems that makes it hard to get into a flow for the offense. Was Marshall in foul trouble or hurt? Only 19 minutes or so for your starting PG? Just wondering...

No. I did read the rest of your post and I agree but I had to point this out. Just no. I'm so sick of hearing we're "an Antwan Burrus" away from being pretty good or James Brown or Evan Gordon or Seth Curry or whoever. If you ever have to say, we're "insert thing here" away from being good, stop writing/talking, you aren't good. Antwan isn't coming back this year so let's stop the "if only" scenarios. Own it when you win, own it win you lose, give God the glory. Sorry if that's harsh, I just hate the "what ifs" people throw out after a loss.

As for "minutes played", I have never figured out player rotation during games. I might be wrong, but to me it seems we substitute too much at times, and never seem to have 5 best players on floor for extended period of time. Granted foul trouble can play a role sometimes. But there is no rule that says a team has to sub on every dead ball

You must have been looking at the box score on the AD site. The player minutes are totally screwed up. No way Marshall played only 17 minutes. He almost never comes out of the game due to the fact that Larry Taylor has been a disaster as a backup so far, and they have Taylor with 16 minutes, which I know is wrong too.

That is where I got the info. Thanks.

I didnt watch the game, but there is a possibility that Layer went back to subbing Taylor in for defense and then immediately subbing Marshall in for offense.

Not sure how Taylor has been a "disaster" when he hardly ever plays and when he does the coach is in his ear the entire time. They never let the kid play and run his type of offense. He is just a freshman. Needs some time.

Taylor´s playing time has been limited because of what happens when he comes into the game. Bad turnovers, 0 for 5 from 3 and 2 for 8 from the line for starters. As far as the coach being in is ear, last I heard that was what he is paid to do. Yes he is a freshman, but he is supposed to be our PG of the future and is our only backup now. If he doesn´t play better, Marshall will continue to play a lot of minutes.

As far as Layer´s substituting is concerned, he does use his bench more than a lot of other coaches. Look at the stats for most minutes played in the BSC and we don´t have anyone there. Guys like FReeman at Campbell and Mutakabur at Presby play almost 40 every game.
