Some Richmond Notes (From Blue Ribbon's 2012-13 Preview):
- Darien Brothers (14.6 ppg, 2.9 rpg) returns as the team's leading scorer. The 6-3 senior hit 68 3s and led the A-10 in free throw shooting (106 of 119, .891).
- Joining Brothers in the backcourt is 6-1 junior Cedrick Lindsay (11.2 ppg, 3.7 apg). Though the team's primary ball handler -- 114 assists and 68 turnovers -- Lindsay is more of a combo guard who can score. His over-all season was very good for a sophomore, given that responsibility.
- Kendall Anthony (13.0 ppg, 1.7 apg) is a 5-8, 140-pound dynamo -- Mooney calls him the fastest player he's coached at Richmond -- who earned the A-10 freshman of the year honors. Anthony proved to be a deadly shooter, tying Brothers for the team lead with 68 3s, but he did so in 18 fewer attempts (68 of 163, .417).
- Alonzo Nelson-Ododa carries the most promise. The 6-9 redshirt freshman chose Richmond over Wake Forest, California, and NC State and plays a bouncy game -- he is all over the court, playing defense and blocking shots and chipping in on offense. "He's strong and quick, and unlike some guys those attributes show up on the court," Mooney said. "He could be a special player for us. He doesn't have to have a scorer's mentality yet, but he has to help us to score. He needs to take advantage of his strengths."
- Every team needs a kind of a rattlesnake player, and redshirt freshman Trey Davis may be that player for Richmond. Davis, whose father John played for the Spiders in the early 1980s, stands 6-5 and carries college toughness at a young age. "Yes, he's a tough kid," Mooney said. "He has a nose for the ball and a sense for the moment."
- The third redshirt is 6-11 Luke Piotrowski, who also chose the Spiders over a handful of major conference programs. Piotrowski possesses the passing and perimeter shooting skills Mooney covets from a frontcourt player in his offense.
- True freshman Terry Allen was voted the player of the year in Texas and isn't flashy, but he can do a little of everything on the court. The 6-8, 220-pounder averaged 22.1 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game as a senior. "He's strong and can score in a variety of ways," Mooney said. "He has a chance to have a great career."
- The other true freshman who can make an immediate impact is super-athletic Deion Taylor. The 6-7 Taylor was chosen 2012 Metro New Orleans Player of the Year and possesses attributes that no doubt create that smile on Mooney's face. "He can make a 3, he's very athletic, and is calm for a freshman," Mooney said.

Wouldn't hurt to start. Though not many would probably participate. But I'll start.

So, should we start a prediction thread for each game like we do with football?

This set up to be a difficult one tonight. We are missing most of our frontcourt due to injury.
Flames trail 41-21 at the Half

Pardon my ignorance, but why does it seem every year half our team comes off the offseason injured? I mean I understand we did the tour last year, but this year? What excuses could there honestly be?

The good news is we may get to 10 wins this year due to our cupcake schedule.

It seems to be a trend and I don't quite understand why either

I cant put my finger on it either...no team at any level has to deal with that many injuries coming into the season as this one does...and there is no logical rhyme or reason as to why

Wonder what our excuses will be this year?
