I know we tend to get a little too excited over "special announcement" buzz on this board, but I still think this one needs to be brought up.

Coach Eaker mentioned yesterday on twitter:

We cannot comment in public yet about our entire 2012 Recruiting Class @Liberty_Hoops but combined with our Returners we are very excited

@jcope75 don't forget how good @TGielo @Andrew_Smith11 are along with some very very exciting news we can share in a few weeks

What could this news be!? Is there a mystery recruit or transfer? Am I getting over hyped about this?!

Let the chaos and speculation begin.

This isn't news we already know it's SC

I heard news of a possible transfer a couple weeks ago..thats all i can say at this point...

I wonder if they're talking about Davon Marshall since he hasn't signed yet.

TJ McConnell PG from Duquesne? Is considering UVA or Arizona last I heard. FOY 2 years ago in A10.

To bring in anyone else would necessitate another departure, which could be Baird as speculated. I personally find it hard to get too worked up about a transfer who wouldn't see the court for us for over a year and a half.

Thats not necessarily the case..there are transfers who can make the move for their 5th year and be eligible to play immediately

Yes, that is possible, as in the hypothetical SC scenario jokingly suggested. I wouldn't be adverse to having a high level transfer for a 1 and done situation as long as it didn't involve sitting out a year as was the case with TeeJay and Brew.

Baird has been given the option. Up to him from what I hear.

I remember when everyone was excited to sign Stephen Baird! Ahhhh the good ole days.

Now we are sending him off and getting excited about an unknown recruit....

I can't believe the little Sugarland, TX guard isn't leaving also?

Which essentially means they want him to stay and have offered to renew his scholarship for next year. His situation looks a lot like where Minaya was 2 years ago. Already burned his redshirt, not playing well and a steady tenant in Layer's doghouse. David probably wouldn't have had his schollie renewed if Konan and Perez hadn't transfered out. He made the best of his second chance, worked his butt off and became a 2 year starter. I'm sure Steven has been given an honest assessment of where he stands and what he needs to improve on to get PT here. I wish him well in making the best choice for his future as a student athlete.

Spring signing period begins Wednesday. I would think Layer has asked for a decision before then, so we should know soon if Baird is staying or leaving.

I highly doubt bballfan84, the guy youre thinking about is the same ball player, because Eaker seemed pretty sure. There wouldn't be news to announce unless he was for sure the player was coming.

I can see where we may have been in the mix for this kid based on Layer having recruited him when he was at Marquette. Tough to compete with a chance to start for a Big 10 team and get a free year toward a graduate degree at Northwestern.

I still dont think this is the kid Eaker was referring to.
