It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It's really a waste of coaching talent and experience having Jim Platt as Basketball Ops. I would think if he wants to stay in the burg (his son is coaching at LCA, and I'm guessing there are grandchildren) this would be just the opportunity to better use his skills.

You'll never get a job with that attitude!

Most coaches get their masters during a grad assistant stint before they move up the bench to a assistant position. Jason moved up the ladder pretty quickly.

Yes.

Jobs like this will draw at least 300 applicants. Possession of a master's degree is one of the quickest ways to cut the deck. That is, of course, if the stack of formal applications through the school's website is even considered, which is rarely the case.

Most of the time, the head coach knows who he/she wants even before the opening is officially posted.

Didn't RD just have a 3-year Bible degree from Baptist Bible College?

No doubt. Usually the only reason a job like this is even advertized is to comply with the overall hiring policy of the university. They will go through the formality of reviewing applications and if they get some that are impressive they will file them away for future reference, but it probably won't change who gets the job.

The question remains, who is leaving? I believe it's safe to say that LU doesn't advertize for jobs that aren't open. Someone has either resigned or is being let go.

My money's on Joyce
Olinger was just promoted from basketball ops, so that wouldn't make much sense. I could only see Eaker leaving to take a head coaching job, and even then it would have to be a good one. His wife has a really good job heading up women's athletics at LU, and it's hard to imagine another school could offer a "package deal" like they have here.

I think who is leaving is still more a mystery than who will be hired. I'll be shocked if it isn't Jim Platt.

Platt's wouldn't be advertised as a coaching job. It'd be advertised as Director of Basketball Operations.

I guess I wasn't clear. I think Platt will be hired for this assistant coaching job, which will then create an opening for basketball ops. They can't post that yet because it isn't open.

my feeling is Olinger goes back to being the DIOP and i think they need to bring in a young and this may not be PC but a young black coach who can relate to some more of the talent out there.

Myron Guillery left Layer in a bind last fall with his last minute resignation, and Matt was promoted almost immediatly to fill the job. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an agreement that it would or might only be for a year in order to have someone in place who knew the system and the players and then he would go back to the ops job.

I hear what you are saying about having some diversity on the staff, but IMHO you don't pass on a guy like Platt just for that. Regardless who they hire, Eaker will still be recruiting coordinator, and I don't think he has any problem "relating".
