A big year for our program and Coach Layer. Early look at our roster and possible depth chart (of course they will be some changes):
1 - Emmanuel Andrews, Chene Phillips, Davon Marshall, Larry Taylor
2 - Chad Donley, JC Sanders
3 - Trap Speaks, Drew Smith
4 - Antwan Burrus, Tomasz Gielo, Stephen Baird
5 - Juan Coronado, JVP, Sommy
That's 14 guys which puts us one over the limit.
I'm looking for Burrus to have a breakout season. He averaged 11 and 6 this year, I would expect him to increase to 15 and 8. Outside of him, I don't know what to expect individually as we have so many unknowns with all the JuCo's who should come in and contribute right away. Of course JCS and JVP will provide us solid depth.

Walk-ons. I hope they don't have to play

Would not be surprised at all if Phillips is not back.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking as well. I didn't want to put it out there though since he is technically still on the team.

I'm sure Ethan will be on the team as a walkon, just as he was this year. I don't know for sure if Kelly had a schollie this year, but I don't think so. I'm pretty sure Hart Gliedman, who left the squad mid season, had the 13th. Regardless, I doubt if we have one for Kelly next year.
Based on his total lack of PT, you have to question Chene's standing, although I found it interesting that he played last night instead of kelly, who had been getting the 2 minutes a game or so when Jesse rested.

My biggest question mark for next year is Baird, who got almost no minutes in the last several games of the season. Even Smith was playing more than the much more highly recruited Baird.
If Manson is right and Baird is our third-string power forward behing Burrus and Gielo, I don't see Baird getting much PT.

Its realistic to say he could be our leading scorer next year, and all conference.
- had some time to get back on the court get some feel back, and conditioning after being away from the game for a long while.
Its also realistic to say he could see 3 minutes a game.
- evidenced this year
Big Question mark for sure.
Edit* all conference big south

What a problem . . . Smith, Geilo, Baird, Sommy, Coronado, JVP, Burrus
The guard play will determine our success next year. Andrews, Speaks, JC, Donley, Assenissi (sp?), Layer, Jr. and Taylor should get it done.

Stop with this foolishness. It's more realistic he won't be in a LU jersey next year than he's our leading scorer and all conference.

Derrico Peck was on campus not to long ago. Got this straight from his AAU coach. I don't know if they are going to make a spot for him.
i believe they are filled with Gieldman, Brown, Sanders, Minaya, and assuming Chene gone.

as for next season. I think Marshall and Andrews is going to be the starting backcourt with Traps playing the 3, Burrus at the 4. and 5, i have no idea. Also think either Marshall or Andrews will be the leading scorers next year. JMO

Because if you say it just right it sounds like Bird?

So this the thread where we hype the recruits.... For the last 6 off seasons I been reading these threads... Top 100 this, top 100 that, Juco all American this and Juco all American that......
Just a question.... The majority of you guys that post, is your personal background a small private Christian high school before becoming LU fan??
If the answer is yes, I have a feeling majority of you guys are very naive.
Carry on, I enjoy hearing about the 'future 5' or whatever the new name will be for them.

What are you talking about? Obviously people try to be positive about the future but I don't think we have anymore homers than most. But we do have some homers.
And I'm all public school k-12 so I guess there goes that brilliant theory.

Nothing really, although he had limited opportunity. However, you certainly could have said the same about Minaya 2 years ago at this time, and he ended up starting the next 2 seasons. Baird has at least as much upside as Gielo or Andrew. Whether he succeeds will all depend on his health and his attitude.

You can only "over promise and under deliver for so long" and people take a walk. That has been the m/o past six years. Certainly we should boast the recruits but it can be done in a way to set realistic expectations and builds enthusiasm.

Is this a real question or just meant to anger people?
Classes get hyped at most D1 schools.

This. Nothing that has ever been posted about any recruit here comes close to the hype the Winthrop guys gave Faison (AKA Mr. D2

)

The kid on the roster that came from the biggest high school is Baird. Moving right along ...
If hope can't spring eternal when looking ahead to the next year then what fun is following any team except the frontrunners. This is why everyone outside their inner circle hates Yankee Fan, Laker Fan & Duke/UNC Fan.
Can we at least wait until the kids arrive on campus before we start dogging our chances? Sometimes I feel like Dr. Seuss wrote the Grinch with some of our posters in mind.
