I though this might actually keep us on topic.
For the sport techie nerds how does the RPI factor into at large bids. I know the BSC won't get one but was just curious in general and how it affects seeding.

It's only one of a bunch of factors the committee uses to determine who's in and out and seeding. Sometimes a team gets an at large or better seeding over another team with a better RPI so it guarantees you nothing. SOS, RPI (which makes SOS redundant in my opinion), OOC record, last 10 games. There might be other factors but I'm just going off the top of my head.
Unofficial factors that they deny using but we all know they do: conference affiliation, tournament committee member school affiliation, historical success, interesting matchups, etc.
