I noticed in Richmond paper today that the Big South is asking for bids for the Men's and Women's basketball tournament. Hopefully LU will submit a good bid, if not a good neutral site will win out. Just get it out of "host schools", and get women's tourney out of High Point.

LU, WU, UNCA now, Campbell and RU have the facilities to support it. Coastal with the new building and the beach could make a real push, especially with their new cash cow playing football coach. PC and HPU have nice places but not enough size. GW has size but needs upgraded seating. VMI, possible but do they have the extra $$$ to bid? CSU can't even host a high school district tourney.

I did a piece a week ago about possible non-school sites: http://lancersblog.com/2012/02/10/157/

I really think with the interest Myrtle Beach Convention Center expressed for the CAA tourney a couple years back that they'll try to bring in the tournament. I'd much rather it be in a "neutral" building rather than a campus facility.

But you have to ask yourself if Liberty or Coastal/Myrtle Beach will be spurned b/c of their "aspirations".

Both venues you mentioned as possibilities in Charlotte are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to big. With the exception of a couple of LU games when we hosted in the Vines, the BSC has never drawn 5000 to a tournament game, and I would guess the average attendance for finals has been under 2500. Imagine that in the 24,000 seat Charlotte Coloseum or the 20,000 seat Time Warner Center. Nope.

I have to believe there is a more appropriate venue in the Charlotte area with a capacity under 10,000, but I don't know the area that well.

My guess is if it was in Charlotte it would be at Bojangles Arena. Capacity is less than 10,000. It's an old building -- a lot of history there -- but it has been spruced up a bit recently. Part of the Southern Conference Tournament was there a couple of years ago, with the semis and final shifting to Time Warner.

Yeah, especially considering that great building was imploded in 2007. That place absolutely rocked back in the Hornets heyday.

Bojangles Coliseum, the older venue in Charlotte, might work. Then again, Rock Hill is only a 20 minute drive, which plays right into WU's hands for hosting.

The biggest problem right now with a Charlotte specific location (not talking about metro area, but Charlotte itself) is:

1) The CIAA tournament has been held the same week as the Big South tournament. The CIAA tournament is currently in Charlotte. Does the Big South really want to compete for attention with the CIAA? And I realize that they are Division II, but their tournament is a spectacle, lately more for all of the non-basketball actitivities than for the games on the court, but will get more attention in the media than the Big South.

2) If you move it to the next week, then the Big South is going up against the ACC tournament just up the road in Greensboro.

Now, of course, if they get a great bid from the Bojangles Arena and/or the city of Charlotte, then Charlotte may be an option. I just don't think that will be the case.

I have to admit, I'm interested to see who wins the right to hold both tournaments next year.

It is gonna be interesting. after they selected high Point for women's tourney several seasons ago, no matter what venue they pick could be surely interesting.

I'd put my money on WU or LU at this point. Both 'safe' choices.

But that's not a neutral site. You said previously it should not be on a home court.

I figured it out. You are John Kerry. You were FOR the neutral site tournament before you were AGAINST it!

You change your opinion everyday so I am not sure what to even take seriously from you anymore.
