He's transferring from UVA. I've heard rumors he's headed to Liberty.

Harrell was top 150 out of HS. His athleticism would be unmatched in the BS. Talk about a role reversal for Big South transfers, a quality transfer inflow as opposed to outflow. Harrell cited Bennett's Christianity as a supreme factor in going to UVA. Johnson also announced he's transferring today. Bad day to be a Wahoo...

Since I watched 0 UVa games the last couple of years I have no idea if this is a good thing. Stats tell me he is a halfway decent shooter. Anything else I should know about the guy?

KT is a good player, but his lack of defense has hurt him with Bennett's system. and he is inconsistent., plus the top 20 class coming in next year might have been a factor as well. James Johnson was redshirted last year and has only played in a few games. If im not mistaken James' sister either went or still goes to LU. Either guy could help our program.

6'9" forward. Just read the story in Cav insider. His father said mentioned thanks to the school and to Brad Soucie. Maybe he can help direct these guys our way... maybe we'll see some positives from McKay's departure, after all!

man you guys beat me to both of them. I think we have a good shot at both. They both need PT and confidence.

Both were 4 star rated players and highly touted. KT could fill it up in high school, he was the alabama state player of the year. James redshirted last year and hasn't played much but the potential word has been thrown about in a huge way regarding him, he has decent shooting touch for a big guy as well.

KT lit it up against Radford last year when Smoothie and the rest of the boys and I went to the game last year. I liked him ever since. Smoothie is right though, he has been a little inconsistent. He would be a great Big South player though! I hope it happens. He would be eligible after 1st semester next year if he transfers now. I don't know anything about Johnson.

I don't believe that James Johnson will transfer to LU. He will be playing professionally in a few years and I don't think that jumping from a competitive UVA squad to a rebuilding LU squad makes any sense.
James and KT are actually roommates at UVA and get along really well. I wish we could get both of them down to Lynchburg because that would be a COMPLETE changer in our team. Gaining a shooter like KT and a big man (who likes to play like a guard) like James would be amazing.
As a side note, I am not a fan of how Bennett is running his program up in C-ville. He is getting some success but I believe it is all on the back of his star player.

Nice article about this in the N&A (thankfully, no mention of McKay):
Focus transferred

Bennett spoke Monday on KT Harrell's and James Johnson's decision to transfer, saying that a lack of playing time was probably the main reason for them leaving.
The main topic of discussion was the abrupt departures of KT Harrell and James Johnson and the "burning" of Paul Jesperson’s redshirt.
Harrell, a sophomore, announced that he was transferring on Friday. Johnson, a redshirt freshman, did likewise on Christmas Eve.
...Bennett, speaking publicly for the first time since since the news broke, certainly wasn’t expecting to lose two more members of his inaugural six-member recruiting class — and just two months into the season...
Bennett said that a lack of playing time was likely the crux of the players’ decisions. Harrell’s minutes had dwindled in the last five games and Johnson had not played in three weeks.
So all they want is some PT? I think I know a school in Lynchburg that could help with that.

I don't doubt Johnson is talented, but it might be a stretch to presume he will be a pro at this point, when he can't get on the court at UVA. As far as his game is concerned, we already have 3 young bigs with various perimiter skills. What we really need is a big man who likes to play like a big man. Hopefully we are getting that in Coronado, as well as further development from JVP.

You haven't seen any yet? JB said that McKay left this program in the best shape that its ever been in!
I saw a positive the day he left... The fact that he wouldn't be here anymore.

Harrell was on campus for an Auburn game earlier this month, I think they are the frontrunners. Looks like he's going home.

The JB Bubble Economics popped. Some chose to inhale the helium. And it clouds the perspective. We are in great shape if you like mediocrity.

I think Auburn is the leader. He's not going to enroll anywhere second semester and then will likely sit out all of next year. That would give him 2 years of eligibility rather than 1 1/2.
