The Flames will take the court friday night against DIII ODAC member Randolph College at 7pm in the furnace. Randolph is using this game as an exibition. The Wildcats made it to the ODAC finals last year in only their fourth year of existence and are a preseason #5 pick in the highly competitive ODAC and return three starters from last year.

Their top player, Colton Hunt, is a pretty good guard. After that they are nothing special in terms of individual talents. They are just a really well coached team that can shoot and defend. They will be severely outmatched in size (and talent, but that is obvious) and athleticism. Should be an easy W for LU.

According to today's paper, Randolph's tallest starter is 6'5"; its other 4 starters are 6'0"-6'1".

Yes, but he has a motor that doesn't stop. He's a work horse. Don't take a play off on him or there's a good chance he'll make you pay.

I see LU winning comfortably tonight, but do not expect Randolph to go through the motions. Coach Nunley would not allow that.

I've seen Randolph play too many times to count, and what bwall said is all 100% true. Derrick Woods-Morrow may not be overly tall, but he is like a D3 Chuck Hayes.

I, too, agree that LU should win comfortably, but Randolph isn't going to just lay over for LU. They'll make LU have to earn the W. They just aren't nearly as talented, athletic, or big enough to be able to give LU a legitimate challenge.

I'm supposed to have two tickets waiting for me at will call for me. I don't know if you have to present your ID (I never gotten tickets at will call before, so I wouldn't know), but I can't make the game now. If anyone wants them, send me a private message. First come, first serve.

I think in basketball youll have less of that than you would in football PA...you dont see a D3 school beating a D1 school in regular season games all that often I would figure

Normally happens 2-3 times every year. Already occurred twice this year - Carthage over Northern Illinois, Augsburg over Houston Baptist. Additionally, Randolph-Macon only lost by one point to American - and in the past 2-3 years they have beaten American and George Mason. I remember last year Colorado College beat Air Force.

and that is out of what...3-400 games every year? As I said, it doesnt happen often...not that it never happens...I think the Flames will win this one pretty handily unless they left more than luggage on the plane back from Texas

Yeah, I've seen him 3 times this year already and he's more polished than in previous seasons.

300-400 D3 vs. D1 games? There are only 346 D1, and there is only 449 total D3 schools, that would mean nearly every D1 team would have to play a D3 at least once and some multiple times...

D3 vs. D1 happens about 50-60 times a year, some years even less than that. The overwhelming majority of D3 schools don't play D1s. It serves them zero purpose other than fundraising. Likewise useless for the majority of D1s to play a D3 - they stand nothing to benefit from it.

Thanks for clarifying shuk...my point is still that it doesnt happen very often. 3 instances out of 60 is still only 5% of the time

Randolph is going to be lucky to keep in within 40 if Colton Hunt doesn't play. Only guy on that team that can create a shot.
