Juan Coronado (Palm Beach St./6-8/PF) has given Liberty a verbal commitment, per a source. Absolute steal for Liberty.

Wow. 3 Juco's in one class. Who are we? Coastal?
Seriously. How does our scholarship brackets look? By my count we are out. Who is leaving?

I'd much rather bring in JuCo's than bring in Asaad Woods and Carter McMasters only to put them on the bench and never use them.

Where have you been all week? The football forum has missed your presence.

we have four seniors on the roster (Jesse Sanders, John Brown, David Minaya and Tanner Hoyt...although I dont think Hoyt counts against the scholarship numbers unless he earned one) so if Hoyt isnt on scholarship as I suspect we are full

One school has been quite active in the junior college market this fall. Read more right here on your source for junior college basketball recruiting news JucoJunction on which player will play in the Big South Conference.
Juan Coronado came to the United States for high school and played at Central Park Christian in Birmingham, Ala. Coronado now will play this coming season at Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth, Fla after playing last year at Lake Region State College in Devil's Lake, ND.
Coronado decided today that he will end his recruitment and play at Liberty University next fall in the Big South Conference. Coronado will now join Emmanuel Andrews and Chad Donley in the Flames recruiting class next season.
Coronado averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds per game last season for the Royals in the Mon-Dak Conference. Coronado will have a lot of good support this season with Waverly Austin and Chris Cantino on the front line.
I'm hearing that the staff has very high expectations for Juan.

Juan had some eye-popping numbers in his team's victory today over Broward CC:
18 Points
12 Rebounds
19 Minutes
I could live with that type of production near year down low for us.

I agree. That's impressive, but you can also be sure that if he has that same line for us next year, there will be a race to the keyboard for a few of our ff experts to question why he didn't play more minutes. Don't believe me?
Here's a recent article that talks about Juan from one of the guys behind the D1 Hoops Report ...

On Saturday afternoon I made my way to Davie, Fla. for a Sunshine State JuCo showdown between Broward County College and Palm Beach State College. The contest was close for a half and then a loaded Palm Beach State team took over in the second half.
Palm Beach State went on to win 94-53 over Broward County and had a number of players turn in big performances. Liberty-signee Juan Coronado was the most impressive player on the floor, as the rugged post player scored 18 points and made his presence felt from start to finish for the Seahawks.
If his game translates at all to what we have, a post rotation involving Coronado, JVP, Gielo, Sommy and Burrus has the potential to be very impressive.

Baird and Smith will share the 4 with Geilo. They lack the bulk to play the 5 and are more athletic and better shooters than those post players.

Burrus is going to play the 4 next year, and IMHO there will be limited minutes behind him, which could go to Gielo, Baird or Smith. Twan has done a good job but he is undersized at the 5. Coronado, Sommy and JVP will duke it out for minutes in the post. I expect Speaks to play a lot at the 3, but Gielo, Baird and Smith will also be in the mix. A lot of newcomers plus JC at the guard positions, with Speaks playing some at the 2.

I like the idea of going big and moving Gielo up to the 3

You can add Baird and Smith in that mix as well. It seems coach likes quickness on D. Right now Geilo and Baird lack that which is why I say they are better suited to the 4, unless they play zone like a 2-3. When we play man we usually go smaller. The advantage would be on the offensive side. Geilo, Baird and Smith will create mismatches and an advantage . . . but they still have to play D.

Pretty sure Smith was considered a 3 coming out of HS. Even decent health should give us a ton of flexibility next year.

Andrew grew 2 inches and gained 20 pounds his senior year. i think they would still love to play him at the 3 if he can handle the ball handling duties required and defend the smaller athletic swing players he would often be matched against.

Good point, as always, olldflame!
In fact, if you compare Smith's recruiting thread to his LU roster page, he's gained 40 pounds.
