Antwan Burrus' haircut is reminisent of my playing days. High top fade! I love it! This is going to be a great experience for our guys. This year is absolutely flying by. Just a few short weeks til football. I'm geting back in Liberty Athletics mode!

Hope they are ready for a steady diet of waffles, chocolate & mussels. Those are the primary dining options is a nation that sits next to France and yet seems to lean heavy on its less than stellar Flemish culinary customs. Don't get me wrong, the waffles & chocolate are great ... in moderation.

“I used it to motivate me to do just the little bit extra, in the gym some but more off the court,” Sanders said. “I felt like we fractured as a team. I don’t think it was a lack of effort. We were playing hard and trying to execute. I think there was a lack of trust. I think there was a breakdown of relationships between a few key players on the team.

I WONDER WHO HE'S TALKING ABOUT

Jesse Sanders 16 points, 7-8 fg, 2-3 ft, 6 assists
David Minaya 14 points
John Brown 12 points, 6-7 fg, 11 boards, 6 assists

Good to see those 3 guys pick up where they left off.

Chene Phillips 9 points
Antwan Burrus 8 points

Not much to say about anyone else. I wonder how Tavares did.

From all of the blog posts so far, I'm guessing we won't see much of Baird this year.

He just hasn't been mentioned which means he hasn't had any noteworthy stats. Kinda like what we all thought would happen being out of basketball for 2 years.

He hasn't been mentioned once in any of the blogs. It shouldn't come as a shocker though. Either he's not fully recovered from his ACL tear 11 months ago, or he's having a hard time catching up from 2 years away from competitive play. Remember, he didn't play at all his senior year of high school.

It looks like our rotation has pretty much been decided from what I can gather:

1- Jesse, Chene
2- JC, Speaks
3- Minaya
4- JB, Burrus
5- JVP, Sommy

We finished 4-2 against club teams. 6 games in 7 days, and I'm pretty sure both losses came on the 3rd straight day of playing different opponents. Looks like JC is emerging as a consistent scoring threat along with Jesse and Minaya. Gielo apparently joined the team, and played in at least the last game. Nice work by the AD staff on the blog, although I certainly would have liked to have seen box scores.

I think it would be a mistake to conclude that limited production by Smith and Baird on this trip is an indication of what they will do in the season. Freshmen had a lot to learn in just a few days of camp and Baird has 3 more months to get his legs and game back before the season starts.

On Facebook there are a bunch of pics with Gielo hanging with the guys the past few days. These types of trips are steep financially but invaluable in helping prepare for the season.

As for John Caleb, I continue to assert that he can be the guy to pick up EG's minutes & scoring and his big brother has shown on this trip that he can score with the best of them as well.

John Caleb and Tavares Speaks will make up for the loss of EG.

If you look at the pics you see plenty of Baird, Smith and Geilo in action. I think all these guys will be key players in our team come spring. Remember Geilo literally got off the plane from Europe and then reboarded a plane to return in a matter of hours. He has had next to no time to learn the names of his teammates let alone learn the offense.

I am hoping this trip gave the new guys a good headstart gel-ing with the rest of the team and we see great real benefits from it during the season.

CBSsports.com's Eye on College Basketball blog (a must-read for any college hoops fan) is recapping all of the foreign trips that have been made this summer, and today, they feature LU's trip to Europe:

http://eye-on-college-basketball.blogs. ... 6/31473506

Here's an excerpt regarding what impressed Layer the most:
What or who impressed him: Chene Phillips, a sophomore point guard, has improved more than anybody, Layer said. Tavares Speaks is a junior college transfer who Layer said showed signs playing exceptionally well. John Caleb Sanders, a sophomore, had spectacular moments, too.

from the write up...— Injuries: Stephen Baird red-shirted last year due to a left ACL injury. He played on the overseas trip, and the coach said he’s currently at about 90 percent. The rest of the team is healthy, according to Layer.
