This was a tentative one I had from 6 weeks ago. The Bracket game is not on there and I think the team was looking for one more OOC game. Plus I noticed Birm So was still on this one. At least this gives you a rough idea. If I get any more info. I will pass it along.

I didn't realize we were throwing another bone to Cincy Christian. And that exhibition game is undoubtedly the highlight of Cedarville's season. Poor Yellowjackets. Even without Brew that will get extremely ugly.

I talked to Coach D about the schedule the other night as well but I can't remember all of the games he told me. We mostly talked about how the Big South doesn't appreciate conference rivalries or take your input into consideration at all. Here are a few examples of what I mean:

1.Winthrop requested (for whatever reason) not to play on Wednesday nights in conference:
Result - 3 home games on Wed in conference.

2. For the 3rd consecutive year the Radford/Liberty series has Liberty going to Radford late in the year instead of alternating it each year.

3. For the second consecutive year Radford/Liberty in Lynchburg is over Christmas Break! RD on several occasions has asked them to respect the rivalry but it has gone unanswered. Not only him but our SID office as well as the Radford SID office and coaching staff. Everyone seems to get it but the commissioner's office! The prior 2 games between these 2 teams in Lynchburg drew a combined 1100 people. The prior 2 games scheduled during a non-break drew a combined 11,000!

4. Charleston So / Coastal is over Christmas break. That may not be a rivalry people on this board care about but it means something to the 2 schools much like Radford/Liberty does to us.

5. Liberty's road games make it tough to get to next venue in a timely fashion. What I mean by this is they are going to HPU on a Tuesday (or whatever date I can't remember now) and then go to South Carolina for the next 2 games but there is an extra day between the trips. Liberty will be forced to do one of 2 things. Go back to Lynchburg for a day which is back tracking 2 plus hours or head down to SC much earlier than normal and pay for lodging, food, gas etc. which taxes your budget unnecessarily.

I'm done. I guess I really have no chance of working for Big South TV after this thread but who cares.

Freaking retard! this is unbelievable. I've emailed them a few times about how stupid they are in regards to this, and it looks like they'll be getting a few more. Why does this happen? It's almost like a boxer taking a dive. Does KK not want high attendance? Does he want us to not make money? Does he want BS games to have no passion or meaning? Does he want us to have as little advantage at home as possible? The guy was acutally starting to do well as commish recently, I thought, but this just ensures that he will always be looked at by us as an incompetant fool. All I need, is one solid reason as to why this happened and I'd shut up about it.

No conspiracy from my perspective. It seems like everyone in the conference has a gripe with the Conference that is legitimate. They seem to go out of their way to turn the screws on folks and it is not just a Liberty thing. To say it is more incompetence than conspiracy.

Seriously. The only way that they aren't retarded is if there is some kind of conspiracy. But I doubt there is. Which leads us back to the point that there is absolutely NO, zero, nadda benefit to putting that game over winter break. Now if we have 2 more home games during break like last year, I think that I may just drive down to where ever it is they are located to yell at them in person.

Charlotte NC Luconn. I have taken that trip to the office a few times when I was trying to get with them for TV (before I had ever done TV). I won't even share the story because I might get angry.

well, none of the folks in the directory will man up and put their email address in their profile. So as a result you have to use that stupid submit a question or comment box. I'll wait until either us or Radford releases their official schedule before I start with that.

Florida, Oklahoma and BYU's Holiday Classic Highlight 2006-07 Men's Basketball Schedule

3-Time Big South honoree, Larry Blair leads the Flames into an exciting 2006-07 season.
August 23, 2006
Lynchburg, Va.

Contests at the defending national champion Florida Gators, Big XII’s Oklahoma, along with a mid-season trek to BYU’s Holiday Classic spotlight the 2006-07 men’s basketball schedule as announced by Liberty University Head Coach Randy Dunton.

The Flames will open the season in Norman, Okla. against Big XII power the Oklahoma Sooners on November 16, marking the first meeting between the two programs, followed by seven-straight home games. Liberty will face Cincinnati Christian in its home opener on November 21 followed by games during Thanksgiving week with Houghton College on November 25 and Southern Virginia on November 27. Liberty continues the homestand with East Carolina on December 2, St. Francis (Pa.) on December 4 and Longwood on December 9. With seven home games prior to the Christmas break that includes East Carolina, St. Francis (PA), Longwood and Lipscomb, we have an opportunity to establish successful chemistry prior to the conference games,” stated Dunton.

Liberty returns to the road to conclude season series with St. Francis (Pa.) on December 16 than the team travels to Buffalo on December 18. Liberty returns home against Lipscomb on December 21.

The Flames will than take part in BYU’s Holiday Classic in Provo, Utah on December 28-30. Liberty will take on BYU on December 28, Seton Hall on December 29 and Oral Roberts on December 30. Liberty will start the new year on the road at defending national champions, Florida of the SEC on January 2.

The Flames open up their Big South Conference schedule on the road at UNC Asheville (January 6) before returning home against Radford (January 9) and Winthrop (January 13). The Flames will than take to the road for three games against High Point (January 17), Coastal Carolina (January 20) and Charleston Southern (January 22).

Liberty will return home with games against VMI (January 27), UNC Asheville (January 30) and High Point (February 3). The Flames make one road trip to Winthrop (February 7) before returning home for games against Charleston Southern (February 10) and Coastal Carolina (February 12).

The Flames play their next two games against non-conference opponents. First, Liberty will conclude the season series at Longwood on February 15 than they will take part of ESPN’s BracketBuster on February 17. The BracketBuster opponent will be chosen by ESPN approximately three weeks prior to the game.

“As a program we are honored to have an opportunity to participate in the ESPN BracketBusters field,” commented Dunton. “It presents quality competition with a tournament game atmosphere. This is valuable experience for our players and can be used effectively for post season preparation.”

The Flames conclude the regular season on the road at VMI (February 21) and Radford (February 24) before the Big South Conference Men’s Basketball Championship begins on February 27. The four quarterfinal matches will be played on February 27 on the home court of the higher seed. The two semifinal games on March 1 will than be played at the regular season champions home court to accommodate ESPNU which will be covering both games. The championship game will be played at the site of the higher seed on March 3 and will be broadcast by ESPN2 at noon.

“This schedule is highlighted with the defending national champion Florida Gators, Big XII contender Oklahoma Sooners, the Bringham Young University Holiday Classic and another action packed Big South Conference season,” added Dunton.

The Flames Television Network (FTN) will broadcast 11 home contests including all Big South Conference matches this year LIVE via the Liberty Channel, the SkyAngel Satellite Network and on www.LibertyFlames.com.

Love this schedule. Definitly challenging which will identify our weaknesses and yet enough games to build confidence. I am especially glad to see that we have seven home games in a row during our OOC period.

returning home against Radford (January 9) and Winthrop (January 13)

Ok that sucks! 1. The Radford thing is true 2. The best team in the conference at home with no students! The latter is, at the most, just unfortunate for us. That's just the cards falling where they may. But the RU game is just unbelievable.

This is directed at whoever helps with the in-conference basketball scheduling. Why? Why on earth is RU @ LU during winter break? I'm sure everybody there is well aware that the 2 schools do not like each other. It's geographically, philosophically, and culturally a natural rivalry. It's like if oil and water lived an hour and 15 minutes apart. This is the 2nd year in a row that you guys have done this. It makes absolutely no sense. It's not that you are not helping us, it's that you are actually hurting the game, the rivalry, and the conference. It's no secret that outside of Rock Hill, the Big South isn't exactly a big draw. If there's any game a student at LU wants to see and WILL attend, it's this one. In my 4 years of never missing a basketball game, this is the game that I remember the most. It's always competative no matter who is on the up year and who is rebuilding. What I need from you is a reason, any reason, that this, of all games, was placed during winter break. It's almost as if you're trying to muffle any passion that exists in what used to be one of the weakest basketball conferences in the country.
I submitted this to their lame-o comments box along with my email address. Let's see if I ever get a response.

they no doubt just read this post (you know they do) and were like "oh, it's just that guy. don't bother."

FTN will be showing the 11 division 1 games of the 14 home games that are on the schedule. Cinn Christian, Houghton and Southern VA (never heard of them) are not ready for Prime Time. That scrimmage against Barton is interesting. Isn't that a Juco? If it is, that is where Gabe Martin went to school in Kansas before transferring to Liberty. Another thing that stands out is 5 conference home games in 2 weeks from Jan 30 to Feb 12 with a short trip to Rock Hill (on a Wed for now but we shall see if it is moved). 6 home games in a row in the 1st semester. That sounds like what the big boys do. I am amazed we got that many folks to come into Lynchburg that time of year even though 3 are nons. UVA is notably absent from this year's schedule but our Women do get to play in the new arena. JPJ is gonna be a fun place to watch a game.

There are those who subscribe to that theory as well Panfan. Who knows the motivation. The only clear thing to me is that bad scheduling hurts the conference and it is something that is easily correctable in my opinion. Get some input from the coaches, do some research and look at historical data in terms of interest and attendance. I am a Project Manager by trade so I think that way but it doesn't seem that hard to me.

total conspiracy in my book. this is a good rivalry and good for each school's gate. i thought member conferences were supposed to help each school! does not look like it at all.
