Please avoid the upset bug LU, beating HPU helps our effort to get out of the 8 seed.

Beating the Panthers I think also guarantees us the 2 seed because we would have sweeps over three of the 4 teams chasing us (still have a game @ Winthrop ahead)

Beej, we're already guaranteed a top 3 finish. Our magic number is 1 for #2. Any combination of 1 LU wins or WU losses and we clinch 2.

HP has been awful on the road, but they still are a team with talent that has underachieved, so we need to keep focused and TCB.

Chris - Does FNL have you wishing you could've covered high school football in Texas? I love watching the show to just to see my friends making cameos and to check out all my old Austin haunts.

It certainly would be interesting. There's a passion and skill level for the sport that doesn't really exist here.

For what its worth, Winthrop is leading Coastal 16 to 12.

I love Dale Layer and it's hard to complain much when he has us at 12-2, but JA doesn't need to see the floor again. Not tonight. Not this year. Not next year.
John Caleb should get those minutes.

Final score 65-54. jesse had 16 points 11 boards and 4 assists. Minaya and Evan missed 20 shots between them, and a LOT of them were wide-open looks set up by Jesse. On a normal shooting night this would have been another triple double.

Defensive intensity was consistent, buzzer to buzzer. Before the season, I heard Coach Layer speak about this team- the hardest working group he had ever coached and he didn't make any projections other than he felt that they were going to do well. Every time I watch the team play, I'm impressed with their effort. No real easy wins- just hard work from beginning to end.

I remember Richie McKay at a preseason luncheon (Jesse and Seth's freshman year) talk about the team in terms of " pass to me, shoot the 3 and play no D". He went on to say that they couldn't "guard the podium" he was speaking from. I like our D. Good game guys!!!!

For any night owls who missed the game (or for anyone who wants to hear SCAR broadcast it again), the game will be tape delayed tonight at midnight on MASN.

I was at the game last night and WOW. The atmosphere is back in the Vines folks. The students were into the game, and the CFAW kids almost got us technicals 3 times for throwing paper airplanes.

Attendance was 5296. Most for a conference game in 3 years. We had over 8000 for Clemson last year, but I don't think we should even count that.

I watched the game this morning on MASN before heading out for church. Not sure what the logic is behind showing Chowan University/Elizabeth City State game last night instead of this one.

Injured. Last night was either the second or 3rd game he has missed.
Speaking of injuries, last time we played VMI we did not have to deal with their athletic 6'9" Freshman DJ Covington because he was hurt. He has been putting up numbers the last few games, and our task is going to be harder.

Anybody see the piece of human anatomy (plastic buttocks) hanging from a stick behind the pep band? A couple of student ushers went over there in the second half, but they left without retrieving it.
I wonder how that went over with our CFAW crowd, especially the parents. I wish LUPD would have stepped in annd confiscated it.

From what Ray and SCAR said, the group behind the band with the costumes and props consisted primarily of members of our Track and Field team! Great to see them supporting the team, although I agree that was one prop they should have left at home.

I didn't have a problem with that. It was the freaking paper airplanes I had a problem with. Which was thrown by the CFAW crowd.

i saw the buttocks....kinda shocked me at first, but in the end, i did not think it was a big deal. the atmosphere continues to improve in the furnace and hopefully the bracketbuster game will draw an even bigger crowd. now to the game, it was not pretty, (it rarely is)...but the guys found ways to win despite not shooting well at times. dave minaya was off most of the game, but made some big shots in the end. we really need antwan to get more consistent, but good teams find ways to win and we did that. i would not want to see high point in the tournament. they have some really good players esp. barbour and shine. and is it just me, but does scott cherry seem like a big whiner??
ps. it more than just CFAWers throwing paper airplanes.....
