Big South Conference Tournament

YES I did.

1st round is played at top 4 seeds. Semis played at CCU. Finals played at highest remaining seed.

#1 CCU
#2 LU

#3-5 CSU, UNCA, WU
Out of these 3 I think UNCA and WU are the most dangerous. I'm pulling for them to both be 4/5. That way they play each other with the winner playing CCU. I'm also pulling for CSU to finish #3. Out of these teams I think we match up with them the best.

#6-8 HPU, VMI, GW - Although it's very unlikely, I hope we get GW at #7. Face it, they're not as talented as HPU or VMI.

Id rather play VMI than GW. But bottom line I don't want to play High Point.

I don't think anyone wants to see them...especially later in the tournament when you have to try and run with them.

I just don't really see how we can get out of the 8 hole now. HPU is 3 games up on us with five to play, even though we play them here in the finale. VMI has already swept us and has the tiebreaker.
We could technically catch HPU, but we must win against UNCA Saturday night for any shot, especially since we have two seperate road trips down to the coast to play CCU and CSU the next two Tuesdays (2/15 & 2/22).

I'd rather play you guys, no disrespect at all intended. We match up a little better against you in the halfcourt defense.

I'm not totally up on Big South history, so some fine person here answer this for me....since the Big South has the conference champion hosting the semis of the tourney, has the conference champion ever lost in the first round, thus providing an empty gym on national television?

Looks like Winthrop is hitting stride right now....I think the LU fan consensus hope of a 4/5 with UNCA and WU won't happen. I think WU gets all the way up to the 3 spot.

No, that has never happened since this format started...

Although not in the "driver's seat" we're right next to it. Pretty nice position to be in right now, & I see a great tourney coming up. Looking for the best, but enjoying a great season regardless.

What I want to happen:
  • CSU get #3 – I think we match up with them better than any of the other teams that could get #3 (WU, UNCA, VMI)

HPU get #7 – We’ll either be playing GW or HPU in the 2/7 game. I don’t really care which one we play, but…

GW get #8 – Obviously they match up well with CCU. Not that they will beat them in the first round, but there’s a chance. CCU has beat HPU by 18 and 24. Whereas CCU has beat GW by 3 and lost by 2.

Then, VMI, WU, & UNCA 4-6 (order doesn’t matter too much).

Sorry, I don't want anything to do with Coastal in round one. I'd rather play you guys and make LU beat us three times in one year to move forward in the tourney. I said before if CCU lost before the tourney, they would be tougher to beat, and that is true, even if Greenwood is on the shelf.

Now a G-W trivia nugget for you...if we do meet y'all in round one in Vines, G-W will be on a 4 game conference win streak, the last time G-W had a 4 game in-conference win streak was our last year of A-Sun play in 2007-08, when we reeled off five straight conference wins. We would have some decent momentum heading in, if it plays out that way.

Sorry but you'll lose your next conference game @CSU.

Maybe...but we swept them last year and beat them here earlier in the year. Hope abounds.

Last year was last year. And they don't play well, at all, on the road.

CSU is really a different team at home. I will not be the least bit surprised if they beat Coastal there.

GW is now locked in at #8 to face #1 CCU on Tuesday at Kimble.

It looks like UNCA will be #3.

I agree, and I think they will.

If the NCAA rules against CCU and forces them to forfeit all the games, that puts LU at #1 and puts G-W at #7 taking the short drive up to UNCA for round one, a trip I could make. Unlikely scenario, but interesting.

CSU is arguably the hottest team in the conference right now, with alot of mo heading into the tourney if they beat Coastal Saturday.

All games played Tuesday at 7pm.

#8 Gardner-Webb @ #1 Coastal
#5 Winthrop @ #4 VMI

#7 High Point @ #2 Liberty
#6 Charleston Southern @ #3 UNCA

Thursday night semi's played @ Coastal. Both games on ESPNU.

Championship game at highest remaining seed on Saturday on ESPN.

If I had to put money on it, I'd say UNCA wins it.

The VMI/WU winner will take out Coastal.

I'm not so sure G-webb doesn't get it done first against Coastal. UNCA is dangerous but we did get the season sweep. If we can get back on track against HP I wouldn't be surprised to see two more games in the vines.

I want Coastal to get beat in the first round so the rest of the tourney can be in an EMPTY HS Gym!

The semis will be played in the chicken coop no matter what happens, and I would hope any 2 teams in the conference could travel enough people to at fill that bandbox over half way at least. The finals will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.

My predictions:

Top 4 seeds win tonight - CCU, VMI, LU, UNCA

VMI and UNCA win Thursday night

UNCA wins the 'ship on Saturday

I hope I'm wrong.
