Hey guys whats going on me and another guy on my dorm run the boo box and want to only support the guys on the basketball team. We aren't trying to be selfish and have any attention on us we just want to be able stand out from the rest of the student body so they know who to look at and who to follow when it comes to chants and when it comes to things that we do such as the newspapers, and the throwing of the shredded paper, etc... Any way im open to suggestions and comments but I just dont want people to come at me hostile and rude because in the end out intentions for the boo box are purely for the players we are from the dorm that the basketball players live on and want to support them and get all of LU out to be loud because as we all know the 6th man is sometimes the reason games get won.

Wear red. Students will still know who you are if your doing a good job. Keep doing your thing. That is all.

Basketball is part of athletics.
Athletics says to wear red.
If you want to support the team, wear red. The LUnatics wore red and people followed them. You can do the same. Wear black hats or black pants or black beanies or black face paint if you want to stand out.
It's cool that a group has gotten together to support the team, but it won't meet much support amongst those here, or in athletics, until the group trying to "lead the charge" is a good leader and a good example and wears red.

I get the fact the red thing is what athletics wants and I think its great when everybody wears red...but also athletics kind of hurt themselves when the football team wore black...it was like...we tell the student to wear red and get bent out of shape when they don't, but its ok for one of our teams to wear black...or grey like the bball team did a couple years ago... I know its been rare, but you can't expect something to take form if you aren't completely consistant

Since when has that mattered? There are lots of teams out there that use alternate jerseys, and their fans figure out what color to wear.
Example: A team we should want to be like in terms of football/atmosphere, Montana.

Seems like a lot of maroon for a team that wears Orange unis once a year!
The team using different uniform styles (especially a Nike school) is nothing new. Oregon fans wear Yellow and Green.
It'd be almost okay if the Boo Box wore Navy Blue, or White. But Black is not a color for LU. If you're a Cowboys fan, you don't go to Texas Stadium in Green! If you're a Braves fan, you don't wear Orange to Turner Field! It's common sense, beyond just being an athletics thing. It's a simple matter of showing school pride, because to a school, even moreso than pro sports, the colors mean something a bit more than just branding.

cant agree more with TTL
plus you get the matter of teams like a Coastal or a Gardner-Webb who actually have black in their colors. so when fans of LU show up to games wearing black against a team like that (granted black is not a primary color for either team listed) it still makes it look kind of strange...
the big thing with wearing red is to unify the crowd... the boo box can and should lead the crowd (as much as possible) but having all the students wear red is just as important.
imagine having a stadium look like this
that just looks way better and honestly a little more intimidating

I totally respect what you guys are doing. Your energy at the game the other night was electric (boogie woogie woogie). I think what people are concerned about is that the school is finally making headway in the area of getting everyone on the same page. When I was there in the late 90s, very few fans even considered wearing a LU shirt to a game, let alone all showing up in red. I liked the suggestion from TTL. Maybe you switch to red tshirts and then go nuts with black as a secondary color.
In any case, keep making noise! I look forward to watching you guys make an impact on the game tonight.

I was playing devil's advocate a little bit which I believe was very clear. I think its much better for all students to wear red, so I agree. Liberty students are a different breed and as much as I use to get annoyed at SJ for saying so its clearer every day that this is true and are told what to do and what not to do their entire time at LU and many aspects of life that most college students don't deal with. I really do think that has and effect on how some students react to the athletics department telling them to wear red and I don't even think they realize it.
I also believe if red became our primary color that the whole "wear red" thing would catch on. Just my opinion, though you and I never seem to agree

I know at WVU they have a section that boos whenever the opposing team's "best player" touches the ball. Can't say it's worked but, just a thought.
Oh, and wear red, but you can do the black hats and face paints and black long sleeves but wear majority red.

Keep doing what you're doing. Keep being loud and creative and clever. Make sure not to say the word "suck" and to keep things clean. Always remember being funny is better than being mean.
That being said, wear red. You can lead while wearing red. In the 07 football season, we wore red and led the entire student section (6000+) during football games. We led in the 09 basketball season when there were 5-6000 people there on some nights. We went to VMI where their fans wear red and took over their gym. The same with Radford. Or High Point (they wear purple but you get the point).
If you're good, and you are, then wearing the color to unify the student section won't keep you from sticking out. It'll also help your relationship with the athletic department and believe me, a good relationship with them will only help your group.
Be Early. Be Loud. Wear Red.
You've got 2 out of 3 right now.

Also, and this may just be semantics, but why call yourself the Boo Box? Why name it after something negative? The name of the group makes is sound like you're more concerned with booing the other team than supporting your team. I know that's not the case, but that's the vibe the name gives off. It also alienates your group from the rest of the student body because if you're not in the box, you're different. Call yourself something that supports Liberty and can encompass everybody. Start with the name, follow through with your actions.

By calling it Boo Box I got the impression that they were booing the best player for the other team lol. I like the name it's just a bit misleading I guess. But anyways you all are doing a good job, looks great on TV. Of course... wear red instead lol.

Be early, Be loud, WEAR RED.
You should wear red. Or at least a team color. At the UNC-A game you matched their teams colors better than your own team. There needs to be a large group of people chanting to get everyone else involved, which you guys do (sometimes). If you are there for the team and not yourselves then wear a team color. Good job on everything else though.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the school colors Red White and Blue? I have never understood this desire to add another tertiary color, gray and/or black, to our color scheme. You can get the same "black" effect by going deep blue.
IMO, if you wanna stand out and set yourselves apart, wear BLUE and call yourselves the BLUE Box. Nothing wrong with red, but if you want to stand out, when the Vines is filled with red shirts, your Blue Box will really stand out.
Other Names:
Blue Flame Group
Flame Retard-ants
Red Riders (since you apparently want to ride the other teams players)
Boogie Woogie Blue Group
Rockin Red Necks (red dickies would also make your group stand out)

Our athletes don't say that word. They are good kids, not rapists who say bad words like retard.

I like the Boo Box. It's intimidating. It's mean. It's a great reference to one of the best Mario Kart tracks.
Navy Blue may be the best way to go, but if you really want to stand out, WEAR A BIG SOUTH FANTASTIC FAN SHIRT

I know the guy that runs the Boo Box didn't like The LUnatics. I have never met him so I don't know what his beef with us was. With that being said, I hope that he can set aside his bias and look at what we did that worked and try to duplicate it and make it better. There's no reason to reinvent the wheel.

Sorry, that made me laugh.
I say if you really want to stick out, then don't wear red or black or blue... be bold and wear garnet and gold.

Trust me, it will look better than what other people there are wearing.

The sad thing is, with all the good advice and the lack of attacking on this thread, I don't think that boobox will come back to read this. All they wanted was to tell us to leave them alone and let them do what they want to do.

That's what I'm worried about too. No one hear wants anything but something great from them and we're all willing to help in any way we can. With so many of us being fresh off of doing exactly what they're doing, we've all got plenty of ideas of what works and what doesn't.

I'm glad their getting involved. I'm just worried of an in-school rivalry thing. But who knows. May turn out for the better.
