Or did you go to the game administrator and say, "can you have that dude removed for saying this".

Big difference if you ask me, Which you didnt. The guy that taught me how to officiate would have Marched up in the stands and carried the dude out himself.
One of my favorites: small gym, small crowd. Make a call on the side line. Large man in a large voice yelled that's BS. I report the foul, ask if the guy at the table is game management. He says 'yes'. I say 'Fat guy in the yellow shirts gotta go.". Hold the ball and wait for him to be escorted from the building. Along with his wife who was running the concession stand.....apparently they drove together!
And I'm sure the guy who taught you how to officiate would have done it with one hand

Letting the game administrator do the tossing was a good move.

The only person I tossed asked me if he could be tossed. It was a coach.

I told him it was a bunch of paper work and he would probably be suspended a few games, but he said, " well you leave me no other choice" walked over to the scoreres table and started kicking it until we gave him 2 techs and kicked him out.

Nice guy. Liberty Alumn I think.

I've tossed coaches, but never a fan. I think the situations are far different.

No way I'm tossing a guy for that. I'd go as far as to say there's nothing wrong with that from a fan perspective. If he is doing it constantly, and in a threatening manner that is clearly directed at you/someone else, then it makes sense. Otherwise you tossed someone for a situation that is minor at most.

Yes. Because one is a coach. The other is a fan. I have never had a coach threaten me with a baseball bat or call my partner racial slurs
So in a gym with about 50 in it, players included, you are going to let a fan curse so loudly EVERYONE hears it? Especially after they read the Sportsmanship Decree prior to the game? I'm sure I get cursed at a lot, but in that setting it was a no brainer.

They read what? Where is this, and is it a private/Christian school setting? If it's a public school, then I'm at least giving a warning about the language before an ejection is seriously considered. You make it sound like he said this once. If that's the case, then there's no way I'm tossing him at that point no matter the crowd size.

Public school. It was a POE that year. In your scenario you would have to worry about him all game. In my scenario I had to worry about him for 2 min. Ask me if I had a problem with him the next game? Nope. Amazing what happens when you hold people responsible for their actions! I think in the thousands of games I have worked I have run 5 fans I can think of,one with a police escort and one with the blessings of my supervisor.
To get back on topic, I don't know what was said, but apparently Karl had enough. Paying money for your ticket does not give you the right to say whatever you want. It may have cost you $5 to get in but it won't cost you anything to leave!

Except for the fact that Karl has gotten something wrong in that area recently. He gave a technical to Pitino for yelling Kyle to one of his players and Herr Hess thought it was Karl. You cannot give a guy a tech for yelling to his player. That's the kind of thing that gives you the "rabbit ears" reputation and automatically brings your decisions into doubt when the people tossed tell their side of things.

....and if you have an official who has that reputation, you adjust. BLwall has ears so big they call him Easter! But when he does a game you adjust. :D

Nice. I can see Pitino in his pregame talk telling all his players who have names that might be confused with Karl that he'll call them "fella" for the game to avoid the complete joke of a referee giving out random technical fouls for no reason at all. That's the toughest adjustment of all.

Anyboy old enough to remember the A's pitcher who wore his first name on the back of his jersey so the umps wouldn't think his manager was yelling at them instead of his Cy Young award pitcher?

I nearly got tossed by a ref as a fan one time. On an side out of bounds play, the inbounder went to throw a lob pass, instead the ball went in and they counted it for three points. I told the refs "Learn the rule book. They can't do that. I have the rule book here on my phone if you need to take a quick refresher course at halftime." Apparently they did not appreciate the fact I knew the rules better than they did and they sent over a game manager to warn me. Apparently they preferred just being insulted instead as the numerous others around yelling vulgarities at them were not warned. I'm sure Karl Hess would have had me booted in a second.

You are just obsessed with that 1 call. It's not like it happens every time.

Yes, because I knew the rule book. How a college ref could not know that is a travesty. Even if he didn't know the rule, if nothing else he should have known not to count the basket since the guy was STANDING OUT OF BOUNDS when he "shot" it.

And he threw out 2 well known fans for no reason at all. And he blew an extraordinarily easy call in the Syracuse-WVU game...It's not one call, it's a history with this guy of doing everything he can to draw attention to himself and to seem to default to the wrong option in big situations.

Wow. You must have NEVER missed a call. Why aren't you still officiating? Are you really Donny Vaden?

Missing a call and not knowing the rules is two different things. You don't "miss" an inbounder throwing the ball in the hoop on an out of bounds play. that's just straight up ignorance of the rules. we're not talking something easy to miss like a reach-in foul, we're talking a blatant play that occurred in plain sight in front of every person in the whole gym.
