Not that I want to jump Radford or act like we are looking past that game, just wanted to post the commercial that is being played to promote the VMI game at home next week and didn't know where to put it.

I am a little nervous for this game. We go on a turnover binge in this game and we could find ourselves down double digits fast. Good thing is that it is at home and we tend to play better in the furnace.

Commercial? What is that? I thought that is why they invented TiVo/DVR's? And why Product Placement has exploded!!

Not sure what to make of this game. VMI is playing like Jekyll and Hyde this year.

The late RD and McKay teams matched up very well with the VMI run and gun style. I'm not sure if Layer's style does. We'll see how it works out. It definitely is a clash of styles.

We swept them last year and averaged 100 points. Pretty much beat them at their own game in Lexington, when Kyle had his triple double and Perez had over 20. Kyle was out in the home game, but we won pretty handily and held them to 73. I expect us to try to moderate the tempo and keep the game in the 80s.

To be fair, the 'Roos are playing much better ball this season than last. I expect a battle.

Yeah we also didn't play this way last year. While we had improved on defense & rebounding that wasn't the backbone of our team. This year it is.

It seems to me that a lot of teams seem to "beat them at their own game". What if big time school that could recruit better athletes ran this system? I'm intrigued. I mean some big programs like to run, but it's not like this.

It's Been tried at a (somewhat) higher level. Most notably by Paul Westhead, who had some success with it in the Hank Gathers/Bo Kimble days at Loyola Marymont in the late 80's, but couldn't make it work later at George Mason.

In short, I think there are good reasons why it hasn't cought on. Dugger has gained a lot of attention with it, and it has been really good for VMI's program. They've parlayed a couple of early season upsets into some good pub, but it hasn't gotten them a championship in the lowly Big South.

That 'style' has gotten Sweater Vest to 2 championship games in the lowly Big South, a lot of 'other' styles haven't even gotten that.

Rebounding will be the key to this game. And turnovers.

Actually it got him to 1, I believe. Ironically enough playing the exact opposite way got him to the other.

Based on the wierd punctuation, apparently you don't like the term 'style'? Would you prefer gimmick? I personally wouldn't call it that. He doesn't carry it to the ridiculous lengths the guy at Grinnell does. It's close though, and yes, he did get to one of those finals by NOT playing the way they normally do. They got to the other one with a group of veteren players perfectly suited to his system and who had played in it for 4 years, and they still got blown out in the final.

Based on form this season, Thursday night should indeed be a battle of contrasting styles, but I see no reason why that favors one over another.

The fact that we turn the ball over so often could play right into their style of play. That worries me a bit..
