Lang's Big South Power Rankings (1/11)

Coastal's at the top, no surprise there. LU at #2:
2. LIBERTY
Previous rank: 2
Overall record: 11-7
Big South record: 5-1
Last week: Beat Charleston Southern 68-54; lost to Coastal Carolina 70-67
This week: Thursday at High Point; Saturday at Radford
The skinny: I think we’ll learn as much about Liberty this week as we did during the Coastal Carolina game on Saturday. If the Flames are true conference contenders, they’ll do no worse than a road split this week. If they were playing well above their heads in the first two weeks of conference play, they’ll lose both and fall right back down to earth at 5-3. Saturday was important for one reason, as even in defeat, Liberty energized its fan base by showing it was capable of playing with the best team in the conference. I think the players already had that belief, but it was important to establish it externally. LU’s next four games are extremely winnable, as it faces VMI and Gardner-Webb at home after this. Thursday will be a major test, though. High Point’s wounded, and I’d expect the Panthers will be ready to take the fight to Liberty at home.
Thoughts? Check out the rest HERE.

Lang did a really good job breaking down the rankings. It'll be interesting to see how Coastal does from here on out. I could see Asheville making a serious run for first place.

Sources indicate that Holmes punched Holloway on the bus. Apparently a 1 and done punch.

you cant hide stupid forever. We tried to do that with a LOT of guys in the past and it didn't get us very far. Not to start that whole discussion again but the type of guys we have now seem to be hard workers and most of them pretty good guys in general. As far as the rankings this week is a huge week for us. I would really be dissappointed if we didn't win both of these games honestly. These are 2 of the more winnable road games we would have i would think.

Holmes looks like he is closer to 30 years old too. There is no way, if this is true, that he should play again this year.

Lang is probably one of if not the most informative writers in the conference...very well done on the rankings

Nope. Holmes will be the only player not playing Thursday. Everyone else is fine.

Sources indicate this morning that Hollaway may not play tonight against Winthrop (concussion)

and Alonzo Coleman is out for the year with a broken bone in his foot.

Your welcome.

Really? I did not see anything about a broken foot on FlameFans. Also, according to therealbodoyle, Holloway was going to play today.

In another thread it's been said that Coleman is done for the year and is having surgery soon.

In the thread about the Coastal fight it's been said by others that Holloway may miss the game tonight because of the fight.

I know this is jumping the gun, but what would the tiebreaker be in this scenario?:

CCU 17-1 only losing to LU
LU 17-1 only losing to CCU

Hopefully not total points allowed in conference games

points allowed would probably work in our favor...so you know they must go with points scored.

It's probably something like overall record. I don't know though.

I think its Loss deficit to eachother... i.e. We lost to CCU by 3... If we go to CCU and beat them by 4 or more we get the better seed... Thats how it used to be anyway... Im sure if thats the case Kolander will change the rule.

If the commish was going to 'fix' a tiebreaker, he'd definitely do so in your guys' favor...I'm sure he'd much rather have the semis and potentially the finals in Vines and not have to deal with the logistical nightmare of having it in Kimbel again.

But I'm not sure what the tiebreaker would be in that case.

Kyle Kallander sounds like the kind of person who would break out in hives before he'd do anything for the benefit of LU

Knowing the Big South, the tiebreaker is probably for the most rebounds given up...
