Chene Phillips getting some Lang love:
LU freshman Phillips making impact with clutch plays
By Chris Lang
Published: January 06, 2011
The easiest way for a freshman to gain confidence is to make plays when it counts, as one of the key unheralded contributors to Liberty’s 4-0 Big South start can attest.

Guard Chene Phillips hasn’t piled up gaudy stats in conference play. He’s scored 14 points in four games to go along with three assists and five rebounds. But he’s played under control and showed an ability to make big plays in big moments.

In Liberty’s win over Presbyterian on Dec. 2, he drew the fifth foul on PC star Al’Lonzo Coleman with about seven minutes to play. He hit LU’s only 3-pointer in the win at Gardner-Webb last Friday.

And with Jesse Sanders needing a rest Sunday at UNC Asheville, Phillips played smart basketball. The Flames turned the ball over 22 times that afternoon, but the freshman didn’t have any turnovers.

So everyone's pretty excited for this one I can tell  We should win but it's by no stretch a gimmie type game. I'll be in the stands tonight with the wife (it's her birthday and she still said we could go :D ).

After watching this team on TV in a conference game I understand what you guys mean by being frustrated with turnovers. I swear these guys just check out mentally for 5 min at a time its killing me.

At the game here. Came out on fire and now getting sloppy, turnovers are killing us. Also settling for bad shots.

Jesse might be one of the best players to come through LU in a long time. I mean that. maybe not the most prolific scorer. but man he has all around game.

Doesn't help much that chucky south is getting away with many over the back calls. Turnovers killing us yet again.

Jesse to John Brown in transition for 2. Not a great pass but a great move from Brown.
