Our second Big South game in 46 hours as Winthrop comes to the Vines Center tonight at 7:00. Lang has a short preview of the game in this morning's fishwrap, including this interesting statistic:
John Caleb leads the Flames in long-range shooting, hitting 3s at a 42.9 percent clip.

46 is right, because of the 9:00 start time Thursday. Don't worry Cider. There have been some really promising developments recently in Alzheimer's research!

I think if we can play defense and hit the boards like we did Thursday and get a little better night from Evan we can beat those Eagles. WU has been inconsistant this year. After their "big win" over Wake, Belmont blew them out by almost 30.

Winthrop is inconsistent on the offensive end however very consistent on the defensive side. I believe barring a hot shooting night from one of these teams the game will go down to this:

-Does Liberty grab 15 or more offensive rebounds to win the game! If they grab 10 or less offensive boards they probably lose.

Turned the game on early and got to hear Tim and Ray working on their pregame intro. In between takes Scar says, "Winthrop's good. Liberty's young. Let's play."

New wrinkle in the broadcast this year: They've brought in Dan Manley and Matt Hildebrand as analysts for pregame and halftime.

Make a layup guys. Seriously.

7-4, Winthrop, first media.

I don't wanna be hard on Evan, but he needs to start playing like our best player if that's what he is. I love the way Minaya is playing and his drive/energy/whatever. Evan doesn't seem to have that right now.

Evan with some really solid plays there.

JVP with some solid minutes, too.

John Caleb with a He Who Shall Not Be Mentioned-like move for a 3 as the shot clock expires!

LU in front halfway thru the half.

Evan had two great plays in a row. We need that. He's dangerous when he takes it to the rim. He can finish and if he doesn't, he'll get fouled and can knock them both down.

That step back three at the shot clock buzzer by JC was huge. That was a Curry move.

Evan may have found his stroke. He just knocked down a nice three.

Joel and Evan both playing really well lately. Brown with good and bad moments, and now he's on the bench with 2 fouls. Jesse with 5 boards already.

Also, Joel had a really nice block but then picked up a cheap foul. He's young but he shows promise.

These fouls are a bit ridiculous.

Was about to say the same thing.

At least they're ridiculous both ways.

Hey, how about we leave 3 point shooters open all the time?

Sounds great.

Winthrop takes the lead by 4 late in the first. Too many turnovers, fouls, and open shots for WU.

They're shooting the poop out of it tonight.

I wish we had a shooter.

WU is shooting under 40% from the field...though the Eagles are 4 of 9 from three.

Yeah but we can't even shoot it that well. And if we are, it won't last that way. Sad I can't be in Lynchburg tonight, but there's 3 inches of snow here!

Yeah, they're really not shooting well. We're getting destroyed on switches and screens, and terrible in transition D (which is bad with the turnovers, and where we turn it over).

Cut down on the fouls and turnovers and we'll be fine. But that's gonna be tough, since those have been problems all year.
