Jerome Hairston
6' 3" 180 lbs Point Guard
Formerly with North Cross HS & LCA

MaxPreps 2009-2010 Profile - 21.1 PPG 10.8 apg 5.7 rpg
Jerome Hairston, PG, East Coast Fusion Lemcke – During East Coast Fusion’s first game, Hairston was terrific. A talented 6-foot-1 lead guard, Hairston seemingly got everywhere he wanted on the court and showed off impressive vision, precise passing and nice ability to finish at the rim. The second time around he didn’t play quite as well, but still found teammates in the open court. He’s a guy for us to continue to monitor, as he’s very talented.
Jerome Hairston has an offer from Liberty. He also said Colorado, Richmond and Virginia Tech have shown varying degrees of interest

This is pretty much the only way a school like LU can hope to win out over the big boys for a highly sought after recruit. Be the first to make an offer and never let up in letting him know he is a very high priority for our program. Then if his number 1 or 2 choices don't come through, there's a chance that instead of "settling" for number 3 or 4 who make a late offer after the guy they really wanted goes somewhere else, he may look back at the school who wanted him all along. It's not a perfect analogy, but that's essentially how we got Larry Blair.

This kid would come along at just the right time, after Jesse graduates.

The News & Advance references Hairston as a Senior (Class of 2011). He seemed to have a good game last night.

Hairston, the team’s star point guard who had scholarship offers from Liberty and James Madison, is no longer with the team for reasons interim coach Jeff Platt declined to reveal.

"Jerome’s got a bright future. We are currently moving forward with the guys that are here," Platt said.

Is it safe to say we will no longer be recruiting this guy?

I wouldn't judge Jerome too quickly. The fact that they aren't talking about it sounds bad, but there can be a number of reasons for that. Great win for LCA, and I'm guessing we will have another member of the Layer family contributing as a walkon down the line.

On a side note, we get a "where is he now" answer on Curtis Staples. Looks like he has put some talent together at VES, even though they had a bad night against the Bulldogs.

My colleague Nathan, who covered the game, came back really impressed by Ethan Layer ... quick shot, smart player who doesn't make stupid mistakes, great shooter flashing off of screens. He's a little small, but there's always a place for a good shooter in college basketball, even if he's not the biggest guy.

I don't know if Layer will still go after him but his value is skyrocketing

yeah they said he was at LCA, obvious wrong.
Jerome Hairston, PG/SG, East Coast Fusion – Now at Liberty Christian Academy, Hairston is going to be in high demand in the class of 2012. A point guard with excellent floor vision, good athleticism, and the ability to make open shots is very rare in this class. Hairston put on a show with his ability to make plays for himself and others. Schools are just beginning to get involved, and his list will get a lot longer before it gets shorter.

ESPN.com lists him as a 90 and we are one of the two schools they have him considering along with JMU.

I know we are not putting all of our eggs in one basket, but signing a blue chip PG like Jerome could be huge for our program. Big shoes to fill, and if we don't have someone who is prime-time ready, it will be a setback.

Just from the short video clip I dont think this guy is that good. Dribbles too much and only goes right. The crossover and behind the back move are slow in my opinion. Yes he made it to the basket a couple times but in college those shots are easily getting rejected. Also he doesnt look to be the most athletic player and I find it odd that there was no clip of him shooting a jumper. There is probably a reason for that. Just my two cents

He committed to Towson. They recently hired Pittsburgh assistant Pat Skerry and he's been absolutely scary on the recruiting trail. For them to be getting top 150 talents to commit after going 4-26 and 0-18 in the CAA last year is significant.

He certainly seems to be changing the culture and talent level at Towson.

districtballer, thanks for joining the board and I appreciate your insight. Just wondering, what is your connection to flamefans.com?

Thanks jcmanson. Other than shared faith with I'm assuming all of you, I don't really have a direct connection to the board. I am a big fan of mid-major college basketball as well as basketball in the state of Virginia. I am first and foremost a VCU basketball fan as it pertains to my rooting interests.

I'm also aware of Liberty's interest in the CAA as a possible destination so that piqued my interest and I have been following some conversation here in the last couple of weeks. I won't deny that Liberty's as an institution and what it stands for also intrigued me. I can appreciate the need for a school like Liberty out there.

If there is something pertaining to CAA basketball, I may chime in from time to time, but always as respectfully as possible. We have a connection to Liberty in that a former assistant of yours in Kyle Getter was our DBO last year before moving on to join Mike Jones as an assistant at Radford. He's a great person.

I will do my best not to offend in any way as far as I can control it.
