We seem to be on to every player at Charis Prep these days.

We need more players in the 6'5" to 6'8" range who have the ability to drive to the basket. If we can sign this guy and two others than we will have the size we need to win the big south.I have class with James spencer and David Minaya and they have been talking about losing their scholarships next year. If Layer signs three players in the 6'5" to 6'8" range to replace Minya,Spencer and Johnny Stephene. We will have a very solid team next year. We need more inside scoring threats.

Speculating on who might be losing a scholarship is sorta taboo. But, I don't think Spencer has a scholarship to lose.

Correct about Spencer. He has always been a walkon. It may be that he is having second thoughts about playing next year though. That's a lot of time and effort to put in without a schollie, and getting closer to graduation, he may want to focus on his studies. Based on some things I have heard very recently, there may be more turnover next year than we were thinking.
How bad or good that is depends a lot on who we can bring in. Personally I'm a little disappointed because I really want to see more continuity in the program. We will know soon.

If we are bringing in some balla’s then that would be a good thing. As I’ve said repeatedly, we need an upgrade in talent.

I thought we had some pretty good pieces. We're missing athletes. From the way things are sounding, I'd be worried if I were on the team right now.

Jesse, Evan, Jeremy, Patrick, and Antwan are solid pieces. I highly doubt you cut size (Carter and JVP). Outside of that, yes I’d be worried.

As in worried about whether I have a scholarship next year? From I am hearing that situation is taking care of itself.

It’s not that difficult, yet. Right now, with JCS and Baird coming in and everyone coming back (including TB) we are at 14 schollys.

"And everybody coming back" is the part in question, not necessarily due to cuts.

Ok, can someone PM me with the info that is taboo to speculate on here? Tough to hear stuff from AL. LOL I agree with jcmanson that we need to upgrade.

I'm not comfortable giving out the specifics I have heard on the board or in PM, but it appears one or more players from this years team are choosing to continue their education and basketball careers elsewhere. That also does not rule out the possibility of at least one not being renewed by coaches decision.

In class Minaya was very open about loosing his scholarship for next year. Minaya joke around about it saying he wish he took more credits last semester. If he was trying to keep it a secret he woudnt be telling half of my class.

Whether or not Spencer returns is, unfortunately a non-issue. He's a great kid and a solid player, but he doesn't factor into what Dale is doing.

We will probably see up to 4 guys not return due to various reasons. So we need to get our recruit on and get some athletes, some go-to guys, some tough, strong players to fill out the roster.

I am looking forward to seeing what Dale can bring in in the late signing period. I am not in favor of just filling roster spots. I would rather save a couple for next year than bring in guys who have no shot at playing in two or three years.

I concur. It's nice to have a full compliment of scholarship players, but we did OK with 12 in 08-09, even with one of them (Minaya) sitting out as a transfer and another (Jeremy) out with an injury. The fact is, if you go deeper than 9 or 10 in your rotation, it tends to mess up chemistry. the 11-13 players should be developmental, and there is no need to fill all of those slots if the players don't project to be contributors in the future.
