Spring Signing Period

I think it starts on or around April 15. Technically we don’t have any scholarships, but there’s rumors of one and possibly 2 guys leaving. With Bowen and Redic off the board, who are we eying?

The only other one I know about is the Galaya kid from Charis Prep. We have a thread on him (but it got just just a LITTLE off topic)

I am watching closely to see what we can pick up. At present with the two recruits we have inked I believe we will still end up middle of the BSC next year. JCS will make an immediate impact but with SB taking the year off I think it will take longer for him to adjust to D1 caliber players. I am hopeful Carter makes a big jump this year and maybe even gets that skyhook working. That would really help.I would love to see another 6'5" or 6'6" true scorer here but that may be asking too much. We could have really used Bowen.

Might be two seasons away from getting where we want to be.

im hoping Dale could make a late run at Kahlil McDonald and PJ Lockridge. Both great players who have possible connections. One, McDonald being a former Marquette recruit and from what I hear, could be a great fit for Liberty. PJ is a 6'6 scoring wing from Heat Academy (VA) who plays on the same club team as Jeremy Canty, could make up for losing Bowen . imo, 2010 class is probably complete :/

I know we don't like just throwing names out there and seeing which ones stick but 2 guys who aren't on the grid for anyone (a native VA and a TX JuCo kid)

here are their profiles... look like they would be solid pick ups to solidify our 3 position

DuVaughn Maxwell

and

Jae Crowder

Crowder is a Marquette commit.

DuVaughn is an interesting prospect. From ESPN
January, 2010: This kid is going to be a steal to whatever college program he pledges his commitment to. Defensively, even though he is a long 6'6 Du'Vaughn is able to defend players that are 6'10 because of his length and incredible vertical leaping ability from a stand still position. You...
outplays Travis Mckie (Wake Forest Commit) 28 points and 8 rebs.

his recruitment has been quiet but he would be a good get for somebody this late

Once again, this is all unnecessary talk unless attrition creates room. This was the point last year when all of the talk of leaving really started coming out. Until we hear from guys that they are planning on looking for greener pastures it is tough to get too involved here.

Obviously we have all heard rumors of a couple guys considering looking elsewhere. If they leave, then we'll be in position to make a run at a player or two or simply hold the 'ship(s) until next year.

I hear what you are saying Sly, but there is also no doubt that our staff is continuing to look at available 2010 recruits who could improve our roster. I think it's safe to say that if Aaron Bowen had decided he wanted to come to LU, someone on our current squad would be either transferring out or making a trip to the financial aid office.

he's making a decision soon and seeing his only other offer is Lenior, he's probably our next commit. Maybe he can bring his teammate and (guessing ) family, Tyree (former Texas Tech player) w/ him :P

You know this as well as anyone else, it's not always up to the players if they are leaving or not. The NCAA views scholarships as one year contracts, not four year contracts.

Technically, it is up to the player if they leave or not. They just may not have a scholarship or be on the team.

Not denying any of the above. I'm just saying that we need to be watching if the first shoe drops before the second comes into play to a certain degree. Obviously if we are offering scholarships then the staff anticipates attrition either of their own volition or not.

Just to be specific, the signing period is from April 14 through May 19.

I'm expecting a minimum of 2 and as many as 4 signees. Without naming names, to the best of my knowledge Layer had decided after the season ended not to renew the scholarships of 2 current players. Since then 2 others have indicated they are likely to transfer. As a result, it is possible that one of those who was originally not going to be renewed may now have the opportunity to stay on scholarship. The other will not. It is also possible that if Tyler is granted a 6th year there may be a scholarship for him now.

During convo today Layer was sitting with a possible recruit. He look to be in the 6'5 to 6'8 size range. I dont have a clue who he was. After convo layer and Eaker were showing him around the vines center. Hopefully we can sign atleast 3 guys with his size.

I don't care what size he is as long as he can ball.

We just dont want 3 more small guards who can only shoot the three pointer.

Name one player on our current roster who fits that description.

Jeremy Anderson. Well, he used to be able to shoot the 3 pointer.

Jeremy is 6'4". Offensively he is almost exclusively a spot up 3 point shooter, but he is also a very solid defender. He played mostly small forward this year.

The smallest guard we have is Evan, and he's 6'2" , and a multi-dimensional player. JC Sanders is not very big, and is best known as a shooter, but supposedly can also take it to the hole and finish or dish. We'll see.

He played in 27 games, started 22 as a freshman at The Citadel. Averaged 19.9 minutes per game and shot 58.8%. Not a three point shooter (only took four shots). Not great from the line. Averaged 5 points and 6 rebounds per game.

some info

Image
John is a do everything type player. A transfer from The Citadel John is a great rebounder, defender, and finisher around the basket. John is an improved outside shooter which adds to his complexity as a basketball player. With a motor that never stops John plays at a different speed than everyone on the floor.

You would think we'd have connections to that school more on the girls side.

It sounds like it was quite the interesting week on campus.

And as for Nigerians, most have adjusted to the new NCAA entrance issues and learned they need to spend a year or two either in US or UK. Perhaps Juice could start coaching a Christian school or prep academy stocked with Nigerians and then lead some our way. That way he'd get his coaching experience and set himself up for return to LU. Just thinking out loud.

Spring signing period starts today. Of course, it lasts til May 19, so it's not like football where everything comes in at once, but hopefully we'll have something to talk about soon.
