They held VMI to 63. Pretty impressive.

Nobody ever said Winthrop can't play defense. As far as how many points they scored, we know from experience that you can score a bunch of points on VMI this year if you can just make layups. Obviously a step in the right direction for a WU team that has been struggling, but 1 game does not a season make. I'm expecting a knock-down drag-out Saturday afternoon.

Is anyone else worried about this game? Winthrop is 2-3 in the conference, but one of those losses was a 2-point lost to Radford, another was a 10-point loss to Coastal and a narrow lost at CSU. You throw out the CSU game and the other two are pretty legit losses. Not to mention LU's youth and being on a road for a few days, that doesn't favor LU. I think if we can survive the first half we have a good chance, but the key is hitting shots against their tough defense. We've got to get this game into the upper 60's or 70's to win.

The thing that bothers me is that I don't think Winthrop is a great team, they have no players scoring in double figures, in fact they don't have a player scoring 8 points a game. We can get this team at home, but on the road, they will have a really tough time keeping our cool and not giving the ball up on turnovers.

The way I look at it, a win over WU would be a huge bonus. Winning 3 games in a row on the road in conference is almost too much to ask for a young team like this.

It is always a challenge to get a conference road win. If our young team can come away from Rock Hill with a victory, that would be a very good accomplishment. It's interesting how quickly the general mood on FF can change. After the tournament in Orlando, there was not any talk about the possibility of having the best 5-game conference start to a season.

I'm curious to see how Realist responds IF Winthrop loses.

He's already talking:
They are the softest team in the league and we should dominate the boards and defensively-----if the refs let us play the game and not call boy band fouls.

Great setup. If WU wins, WU wins. If WU loses, the Refs gave Liberty the game.

I wish "Boy Band Fouls" was an actual concept. If you create a boy band, you get fined and sent to France. Great idea.

So if we won by +15 would he still say the refs gave us the game since its kinda hard for the refs to give a team that big of a margin without SOMEBODY getting suspicious (Im not saying it will happen that way just speculating since Realist is about the most myopic fanboy Ive ever seen on here)

He's ALWAYS talking. I like to go over there and stir the pot occasionally, and he always makes it worthwhile. :D

Common opponent rebounding:
Winthrop +11 over VMI (46-35)
LU +28 over VMI (50-22)

In recent games, our 1 & 3 have had triple-doubles, and our new 5 had a double-double in his last game.

WU is 5-2 at Winthrop Coliseum this season including 2-1 in Big South action.

WU is shooting 36.4% from the floor collectively this season and just 25.5% from behind the arc.

Realist is sort of right about the officiating dictating how the game goes. WU is more physical than most mid majors and if they allow them to foul and hold (ok play physical) then they are tough to score on. Their 39% FG percentage makes it ugly on both ends of the floor. I think we have a chance to win the game though. 4-1 start would be awesome! Go Flames!
