Basketball Bus Trip

Before our trip to Stony Brook was half over, some of us (OK, mostly me and Cider) were talking about when we could do another one, possibly for basketball.
Under the old Saturday/Monday BSC schedule the "Beach Trip" to CSU and CC would have been awesome. Travel down Saturday for the first game and then get rooms in Myrtle Beach (DIRT CHEAP THAT TIME OF YEAR) for Saturday and Sunday night. You spend all day Sunday and most of Monday in Myrtle Beach and then go to the Monday night game and directly home from there. You only miss one day of work/school. I've done this trip myself 8 or 9 times at least, but it would be even better in some ways with a group and someone else driving.
Unfortunately, with the Thursday/Saturday schedule, that trip would mean 2 work/school days missed, and I'm thinking there would be a lot of people who couldn't afford to do that. This year the dates are 2/25 (Thurs) and 2/27 (Sat).
In looking at other possible games to travel to, my thought was that places that are really close like Radford and VMI it would be easier just to drive yourself or carpool. The date that stood out to me on the schedule is Jan. 9 at Winthrop. Rock Hill isn't a marathon trip like SB, but it's a pretty good haul to drive down and back in one day. The game is at 4 in the afternoon, which means we could stop for a nice dinner somewhere after the game and still get back at a decent hour. The only thing I don't know is whether the students are back from semester break.
What do you guys think? Who would be interested? I'm willing to help organize it again. I wouldn't count on having a doner to subsidize this one, but it shouldn't cost nearly as much to begin with.

When working with Transportation at LU every bus trip I planned for basketball was well attended.

Considering that this is a very different trip from SB, do you think it could be done as an "official" LU excursion HMO?

I'm pretty certain that the students wouldn't be back yet, but LU is drawing more local kids now anyway. I'd definitely be up for a trip to Winthrop or the beach. Any chance someone could check the guys' and girls' schedule closely to see if we are doing a double header away anywhere?

I guess 48 folks made history and proved that wrong, including 15 members of the Brown family.

Do the Browns like basketball?
The good thing about shorter trips like this though is that a donation or subsidizing by a department isnt needed and yet it can still be affordable for the fans.

You can bet if Mike were playing they would be there.

I don't think Rocco would go for that though.

FWIW, if you choose to stay in MB instead of Charleston, you've abslutely lost your mind.
Charleston >>> MB
One is upscale, the other redneck. But if you're into tourist traps posing as whole cities, well...

I concur with BYD. Having been to Myrtle Beach 3 times, its a lot of fun (and the views are amazing if you get right on the beach).

MB is okay, but it doesn't compare to Charleston as a tourist destination. The culture (art, architecture, history), shopping, dining, and attractions and entertainment are all far superior to what MB has to offer. Just sayin...
If you want the beach, golf, outlet shopping, and 2- and 3-star restaurants and resorts, then by all means MB has those. But so does Charleston, and better - as well as more.
[I really didn't intend to make this thread into this. I apologize, and digress.]

I don't necessarily disagree that Charleston is a better place to spend the time, although Myrtle Beach has a few things to offer. The consideration there is COST. Myrtle Beach has THOUSANDS of empty hotel rooms that time of year, and you can get a nicer room for much less. It's still possible to work it out to spend time in Charleston while sleeping both nights in MB. This year for example you could leave MB fairly early Saturday morning for Charleston and spend the day there before going to the game.

Beej, help me out here man - when typing on here, consider how you might be read in the worst ways possible. It can keep you out of trouble, and save you an awful lot of heartache.

Does BJ realize that JK37 is a happily married GUY?

1) Yes I am very aware of that...of course this board is populated by a bunch of moral degenerates apparently who take everything to its most extreme conclusion. When I wrote what I wrote yesterday my simple thought process was that if JK is so high on Charleston maybe he could be a gracious host and show me around since he knows the area better than I do.
2) I know this isnt eHarmony and Im not ATrain so I dont swing that way as it is
