With the 2009-10 season opener less than one week away, the Liberty men’s basketball team is continuing to prepare for its match-up with George Mason, Friday at 7:30 p.m. inside the Patriot Center.

Recently, Nick Pierce caught up with head coach Dale Layer to discuss the Flames’ preparation heading into the 2009-10 season.

A pretty "non-committal" interview, which is to be expected at this point in the process. Interesting that Gordon and Perez were the first names mentioned as far as players who stood out. He also mentioned significant improvement by Carter more than once, and confirmed that he has put on about 20 pounds.

And no mention of our former coach in Charlottesville or our former shooting guard in Durham. Coach also said his players have spent 81% of practice on defense, which is probably a huge change from last year.
