If I understand the rules, the team should be having it's first practice Saturday. In the past we have sometimes had an open practice on homecoming Saturday. I'm thinking we should have heard something by now if they are doing it this year. Any word?

I went to one McKay's first year, and some old hag alum was there with his video camera. McKay had one of his assistants tell him to put it away.

Yeah, that was me. Actually, it wasn't even a video camera, just a digital camera with a zoom lens. I did think he was being a bit up tight.

First day is Friday, starting at 5:00 pm.

Any coach in the country wouldve told you to put the camera away. Many would tell you to leave. Coaches are a fanatical, neurotic, and paranoid lot of individuals.

Olldflame, when it happened, I thought to myself, "he thinks he's in the ACC." Well, now he is.

You're a little behind the times my friend - about four years, I would estimate. You missed a significant rule change made in April of 2005.

NCAA Bylaw 17.3.2 states:
"A member institution shall not commence on-court preseason basketball practice sessions prior to 5 p.m. on the Friday nearest October 15. (Revised 4/28/05, effective 8/1/05)"

The NCAA Division I Manual: Constitution, Operating Bylaws, & Administrative Bylaws. (2009-10). Effective August 1, 2009.

Oh, and by the way, it's NEVER been on the 15th; it's always been the "Friday nearest" the 15th.

To be exact it use to be on the 15th, but for midnight madness purposes it was changed to the nearest Friday of the 15th. NCAA didn't want Madness on Tuesday or Wednesday night.

But actually back in the day it started November 1, then eventually got moved to October 15th.

The time is 7pm... ( but what some coaches do is save their individual workout time from the previous week to get a head start,) ---- only basketball people will understand this, ask Scar if you don't ----- so that's why LU may start at 5pm... VT is starting at 6pm...

I hate to babble but I hate when people think their right and their really not.

The Vines Center is unlocked 90% of the time so I'm sure if you go in there, they'll be practicing. Unless they're practicing in the Schilling or something. I'll probably stop by some time during the parade.

I quoted the rule directly from the manual. Its 5pm.

I was wrong about the 15th. I checked. My apologies to shuk, and the board.

I do not accept your apology. I sat in the Vines Center all night last night because of you.
