Joyce was an assistant at Colorado State under new Liberty head coach Dale Layer.

oyce comes to WNCC with an impressive track record. On the court, he served has only the third head coach in NJC history, guiding them to a 97-38 record, including a national tournament berths in 2000 and 2005. His teams were ranked six of seven years in the top 20, and received Street and Smith’s Magazine top 15 rankings in three of the last five years.

He has also proven himself as a top recruiter. At Colorado State last season, he helped sign two junior college all-Americans, a commitment from Mr. Basketball finalist in Colorado, and two players the from No. 4-ranked junior college team in the nation. He has also sent 32 players onto Division I schools and 18 of his players have been starters at the Division I level.

Off the court, his resume is just as impressive. He has had four academic all-Americans and 31 of 33 sophomores have graduated with an associate’s degree.

“I am in this profession because I think you can utilize this game to impact their lives,” Joyce said. “I know that it is a cliché that a lot of people use, but my track record speaks for itself with the loyalty I have from past players. I was fortunate to be under some older coaches along the way that helped me understand the true root of teaching and how coaching fits into that.

They actually have a player on there roster from Bethel Christian school in Hampton VA Ali Djim 6-8 215 Fresh Bethel Hampton, Virg. I dont know if layer would even consider him but he looks like he has good size at 215 http://hsvirginia.scout.com/a.z?s=412&p ... id=3505398

and has a connection to at least one of our players

Myron was an assistant at CSU under Layer, as well.

I don't see what's so bad about bringing in this guy. Brings recruiting connections from the midwest, head coaching experience with a good record, and familiarity with Layer.

Exactly...maybe now we can get players past the state of Texas

Congrats to the new coach. I like the way the team is coming together. The mood has changed dramatically from 2 months ago.

Just thought I'd mention that Texas extends further west than Fort Collins, CO (home of Colorado State) and Alliance, Nebraska (home of Western Nebraska CC). They probably don't teach that in geography class in NC junior high schools.

Does every hire have to be some guy from a well known D-1 program who can bring in top 50 recruits or something? You dont have to swing for the fences every time.

One word describes the hire: LOYALTY.

About his playing days:

Joyce was a first team all-state selection for La Cueva High in Albuquerque, N.M., where he led his team to a state championship.

He followed that up with two outstanding years at Northeastern Junior College, where he played for the legendary Lowell Roumph from 1991-93. During those years, he scored 801 points and made 108 3-pointers. He was also the school record holder for assists and steals, helping the Plainsmen to 43 wins in two seasons.

After that he played at Idaho State University for one year before transferring to Oklahoma Christian University, where he was nationally ranked in assists, 3-point shooting and free throw shooting.

If this was for the #1 assistant position I'd agree with you...however at a BSC not being the #1 this is to be expected. You're looking at people like Juice who has no coaching experience however could produce a big man every 6 years and this guy....keep in mind this route is what produced Jason Eaker who has proven to be a tremendous recruiter just young...and that's worked out great for use producing a ton of these players we're winning with.

So you'd rather have losing DI experience versus winning sub DI experience?

Juice just wants to be here in some aspect...Basketball obviously would have been his first choice but I think he'd be happy with just being apart of the University in some aspect. Which in my opinion would be great...however I suppose it could get sticky if he was to bring a athlete over here....boy wouldnt that be great if Juice brought a big kid over here???

Coach Layer will make the difference in your coaching staff and you would have to go a long way down for your staff to be as bad as HPs.
