This is the kind of player that we should get. Sure he has big-time potential - and he could play a few minutes at BC or Gongaza --- but at LU, under Coach Layer, he can really develop and take his game to the next level. Coach is great with big men, we like to run, and the school will do wonders in developing him both on and off the court. I'm hoping we pull him into the LU family.

I find it interesting that it's the Radford fans who are scoffing at the possibility of these higher level recruits coming to LU. The kids we have posted about here may not end up at LU, but they are considering it for specific reasons. They wouldn't go to a school with Radford's reputation in a million years. As long as our coaches continue to embrace the uniqueness of our university instead of running away from it like some did in the past, we will sign some of these players with more than 2 stars after their names in the scouting profiles. These are kids who come from backgrounds where if they didn't play ball, they would probably have LU on their short list of schools to attend if they could afford it.

Allow me to retort.

I found another potential Liberty recruit for you guys! Good luck!

You're absolutely right, there are some prospects who would not fit in well at Radford. No one denies that there are some idealogical differences between the two schools. Say, someone who agrees with the quote below from a former Chancellor would probably not a good fit for Highlander Basketball.

"I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'"

Just a response to another Liberty post that claims they are above the rest of the Big South....your boy said that there are some kids that "wouldn't go to Radford in a million years" I wanted to point out that the same thing could be said about Liberty, except I provided an example of something that could prevent a recruit from wanting to go to a particular place of "higher learning"

Of course there are a lot of high school grads (athlete or not) who would never consider coming to LU for a wide range of reasons. I didn't say LU is "above" other BSC schools. My point was that every year there is a group of potential recruits who are elite athletes and devout Christians. Some of them are beginning to consider LU as an option because it provides a spiritual component they like. Kids like Noreen and Baird may end up opting to play at a higher level, but we are starting to get their attention.

hahaha, i love hearing radford talk trash,

A.) No football team
B.) First year basketball team has been good in a decade or more
C.) Baseball team is always a cellar dweller
D.) The picture displayed in the post above

Is there any need to cite any other examples

Where was the trash talk? The LBJ joke? Calm down.

yes...no football team. Astute observation. What's the point if you aren't going to be DI? Gettting pwn'ed by VA Tech every year? No thanks.
Basketball team played in the Big South final in 03' after beating liberty on their own floor in the semi's...oh, and be sure to pay attention this year.
Baseball team 16-9 in conference this year including a 2-1 record over Liberty
The usual slander, with no proof.

Any other rando "examples" you feel like throwing at a wall to see what sticks?

You were actually 2-2 against us. I was going to jump on him for saying that baseball sucked when Radford beat us two of three but then I remembered we beat you in the conference tournament.

I think the overall point is that just because some High-major to Elite programs go after this kid (or just about any prospect really) doesn't automatically mean that Liberty shouldn't even bother recruiting them. Now there are some kids who pretty much already have it in their head that they want to go bigtime and that will be brought out fairly quickly in vetting process, but sometimes mid-low major programs can sneak in and can steal some pretty good recruits (maybe not top 10 kids but maybe top 100 or even top 50 recruits). The fact that we are on a list with schools like Gonzaga and BC shows that at the very least he sees us as one of his options and that shows where we've come even in the last few years.

By the way, I'm talking about the state of the programs, not just head to head records. They dont always tell the whole story. I actually did notate your success in bball this year if you re-read it again. Plus your non-conference performance was nothign less than embarassing this year, along with the display in the tourney. Your agrument about football is ridiculous, if thats the case then why play basketball so you can get ripped by 50 by Carolina???? I'm actually not angry just making a point since you dismiss any decent player coming to Liberty. My point is that I would take Liberty's athletic program over Radford's all day long and I think the track record speaks for itself. It's bigger than a head to head matchup in any one sport in any one year, you should know what I'm talking about SJ

To be more specific
Baseball
2009- Finished with a better overall record and higher in conference while going 2 and 2 head to head including tourney win
2008-Went 4 and 1 including ending RU's season in tournament along with better regular season record
2007-Went 3 and 0 against RU, once again finished higher in the rankings and had better overall record
2006- Went 3 and 0 against RU, finished higher in standings, better regular season record

I knew we had kicked Radford's butt the last few years and I had to go to the website to confirm my gut feeling.

I think he has great potential based on the Numbers but a few things scare me here
Averaged 28.2 points per game as a sophomore leading the Wolves to a 28-5 mark and a runner-up spot in the Class A Tournament. Plays for Magic Elite 16-and-under team that won the Double Pump Tournament in Denver.
IDK If They go on the same system as Florida and VA, but Single A ball is a joke... 28ppg is a cake if you are over 6'5". The other thing that scares me is they wont the Double pump tourny and his Jersey in the picture says "Pump and Run" so Im sure his team hosted the tournament and if its anything like Boo Williams it isnt hard to win when you host.

Those are my only concerns, and Im not trying to be Debbie Down-er, just a few things that scare me... other than that his potential could be great and I have faith in our staff to not go get a dud.
