Liberty Men’s Basketball Head Coach Dale Layer announced he has retained assistant coach Jason Eaker on his staff. Eaker has served as an assistant for Liberty for the past two seasons, helping the Flames to 39 wins, the third-most wins over a two year period in program history and second-best during the Division I era. Liberty won 43 games during the 1979 and 1980 seasons, and 40 games during the 1996 and 1997 campaigns.

“Jason brings great experience to our program,” commented Layer. “It is tremendous for everybody that Jason wanted to return to Liberty and be part of my staff. He possesses passion for the game and he gets productivity out of our players. Jason is responsible for most of the players we have in our program and it was terrific working with him in the past as he helps with every facet of the program.”

The more continuity the better right now. Congrats to Jason.

2 assistant coaching positions to be filled, and they will most likely be from "outside". I for one hope everyone else is retained. Like Sly said, right now continuity is our friend.

I'm on that Lundy wagon. I'd also like to see an assistant with some inroads in Maryland or Houston. Or Both although I don't know if that's possible.

No doubt, but if I understood things correctly, Willis wasn't interested in relocating for the head coaching job, so I think we can be pretty sure he wouldn't do it to be an assistant. (That is unless he has gotten a "McKay-esque" calling from God to humble himself and serve under Dale Layer)

Hiring Jesse's dad as an assistant is an intriguing idea. I think he would be qualified, considering the fact that he has been the coach of a team playing a schedule the equivilant of an elite HS program, and has coached numerous players who went on to play college basketball (not all of whom were his sons). I would guess he has a full time job apart from basketball, but really don't know.

and hiring a father or AAU coach/handler is really not unheard of to get a recruit (I guess we can assume we're "recruiting" Jesse and John Caleb). I think they normally give them a puppet job though. But I'm sure the Sanders clan has a life in Texas and would rather stay put. Plus I was just joking.

How did Jesse's dad get into the mix? He's a lawyer, not sure why coaching would appeal to him
