I just wanted to get this out.

Yes or no, is the hand of God still on Liberty University? I think its hard to deny it still is. That's why when Purple Haize brings up names of guys from NAIA Christian schools or anyone else we've never heard of I may doubt at first but I simply need to remember that if God places his hand on that coach then there is no limit.

Let me say that one more time, there is NO LIMIT. NONE. RMK saw a ceiling....but that ceiling he saw was only in his eyes. Doc was rarely wrong with his visions and he truly could see one day LU Football walking into ND and walking out with a victory. Simply b/c he didnt see ceilings. If you look at the future of Liberty Athletics or just the university as a whole and see ceilings I cant get mad at you, very few people are the visionaries that he was. I just wouldnt want you to try to be in the drivers seat...I would simply like to take you along for the ride and allow you to experience (what you thought) the impossible.

God's hand is still on us. As far as a future coach goes, I dont expect him to walk in to Liberty University with our vision...the only thing I expect is for him to walk in with God's vision. The vision that simply says "the moment you put a limit on God prepare to be proven wrong." Then his vision and our vision will coincide. I dont think any of our potential coach's have a resume as bad as Paul's, yet he is considered (Doc included) to be the greatest soul winner in the Bible. So while I hate preaching, or even coming close to sounding as if I am...I'm not. I just dont want anyone to forget what we came from...we were not founded by a man who had "Liberty's Vision" we were founded by a man who with God by his side bought into everything He could do, and Liberty was simply a fruit from it.

All that wrapped up into 1 sentence. Carry out God's vision, then Liberty's vision follows, Men's basketball rides the wave and one day we're walking into ND on the football field and carrying out Doc's.

God's hand may still be on Liberty but men still make decisions that are out of God's will.

Then we do not have the right men in the drivers seat

We can have a philosophical debate all day long if you want.

The right man can still make mistakes. Only one man was ever perfect. Even Doc made mistakes and made decisions he regretted.

Your right...and we're not going to have this debate here...I simply wanted to say something and I did, you disagree with some of it which is perfectly fine as I'm sure others do as well, but I believe it and I know there are others that do as well.

And lucky for us they are in the drivers seat and not sitting here posting on FF like I'm doing.

Something I want to share pertains to what Hold My Own is talking about. Falwell's vision for LU's athletics was one of the reasons why I chose Liberty. Here is an excerpt from an old article from the NY Times:

''I think that now is a good time for Liberty to attempt to become, for evangelical young people, what Brigham Young is for the Mormon youth, Notre Dame for the Roman Catholic youth: that is, a world-class university both academically and athletically,'' said Falwell, the school's chancellor.

Doc was a visionary like few men have ever been. Just think about a major Christian University in the tiny town of Lynchburg Va. L'burg was less than half the size it is today when Doc started LU. Pittman Plaza was the only shopping center, we had no campus to speak of, lived in the middle of the James River or deserted/broken down hotels downtown. It certainly took a visionary to dream the dreams that Doc had.

Is the vision still alive at LU? Not sure if it is as strong or as big, I don't know Jerry and Johnathon nearly as well as I knew Doc, but it is there. Both the boys have done very good jobs at their respective tasks and will continue to do so. The school had to cap enrollment for the first time this year, the church has grown, and Johnathon brings an energy to the church his Dad was unable to provide the last few years of his life. Don't know how anyone can grow up beside the man that Doc was, without a good deal of it rubbing off.

I wouldn't get too nervous because a player and a coach left a basketball team. The sports program is doing well, the funding has increased, we have good coaches that other school's want, our teams are doing well. I look for us to be in the playoffs in football very soon, we will have multiple national championships in track and cross country in the next three years, our baseball team will continue to improve, we have a solid womens BB program.

All in all, I fell good about the state of the athletic, academic and spiritual future of LU.

Now if we can just get out of the BSC. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

I think there are quite a few around here that see a ceiling...and the Sasser Cup is the chandelier.

Ceilings like the BSC are simply glass ceilings...sure they are there but with enough speed and momentum they are easy to break through...but we have to do our part and get the speed and momentum before anything can be expected or done

Winthrop was on the verge of busting through that ceiling when Marshall left.

Yup, another 2 or 3 years of competing the way they were and I think they have serious options and thats WITHOUT football...imagine if we have run like that with a solid football team

This is the problem. Keeping someone here, who is capable of breaking through the ceiling, long enough to make it happen.
That's one reason I liked Cline so much. He's not young like Marshall was. The chances of him staying here a while were higher than an Odom.
