I wish I could make it up for this one, I haven't been to the Vines Center since '03...but I won't be able to make it.

It's a big game...both teams are coming off really tough OT losses. I'm not sure what WU's starting lineup will look like with both Reggie Middleton and Manny Robinson having x-rays taken today on their ankle/leg area...we'll probably know more on their status later today or tomorrow.

Is MASN broadcasting it? Is that the reason for the 9:00 tip-off?

Yes, MASN is. Not sure if it is a DH or not.

You mean the kind of fuel that if WU wins it means that with their worst team in the last 10 years and at least the next 5, with the starting pg and sf out, they still sweep the season series? That would be enticing :)

Realist I must say on this board while irritating at times you are tolerable but boy your like a different animal on that other board!

Still fun though

I read your board. You are like THE superhomer to end all homers. After every loss you say something identical to this:

"This team has had all the breaks go against them this year. Losses in close games, injury to our only true post, injury to Manny, injury to Reggie. A OOC schedule that that wasn't conducive to developng young talent. They've kept fighting. I feel we'll be looking at domination next season. This team is deep with talent. Once those posts are in the lineup and we have a year of experience, there won't be many weaknesses."

And you parade around here with the title "realist". To be optimistic about your team for next year is one thing. I think every fan does that with their team. But you guys simply suck this year. Even if you beat us on Saturday, that won't change. You have trouble scoring 50 points. You're lucky you've got guys that seem committed to defense.

Luconn,

Let me make it easier for you to understand the relationship here.

If this were the ACC, you guys are virginia, and we are UNC. Every now and then (in WU's case about once every 5 or 6 years), UNC has a lot of injuries, turnover of seniors, and they have a down season. Every now and then, virginia is a little better than .500 year in conference. Every 3rd or 4th year, virginia gets a win on UNC.

But we're still UNC, and you are still Virginia. Let's hope you get the one victory while you have the opportunity.

:)

Yeah, I remember seeing all of those Final Four banners hanging in your crib.

It must be cool to be young enough to not remember when your team was the league's bottomfeeder.

I know it's hard to see the hurricane ahead when you're just at the tip of the storm after having been in tropical waters for the last few years. But it's a category 5. You are not UNC. You cannot sustain down years to keep the program dominant. Marshall does not have some kind of coaching lineage that he can call upon to keep you at the same level. Very few programs are able to that. I guess I don't blame you for fooling yourself though. You've got to do it while you can. Just keep looking back and telling yourself that Marshall wasn't the reason for your success.

That was weak. If Marshall was the key to success then what happened last year? Marshall also had a middle of the pack year as well. It's a normal rotation for elite programs.

Better hope you win Saturday. You probably won't have another chance until 2013. :)

Yeah maybe next year you guys will be scoring in the 60s on a consistent basis. Baby steps though.

Yeah, we're at least the Wake Forest of the league.

Yes realist I have to say the analogy are weak. I certainly remember when WU was the worst team in the conference. Basically you caught lightning in a bottle with Gregg Marshall and you won last year with 3 of Marshall's players that never lost a big south tournament conference game. Anyone who has ever coached at this level or played at the division 1 level will tell you that there are no guarantees of winning. The NCAA is very competitive and to expect to just dominate year after year is just not reasonable. There are probably 5-8 programs that are in that category in terms of winning their league every year. I don't think WU is that good this year and Randy has his work cut out for him if they want to get back to the top of the big south. I don't see how anyone thinks WU is better than Liberty this season having seen both teams.

This is a great analogy. I finally understand the enigma and greatness of winthrop basketball. And I will never doubt it again. Amazing how just one tournament win in nearly ten tries can have such a prolonged and permanent effect. It's just a high that you just can't come down from. I'd imagine that getting naked and having oneself painted maroon and gold is the highest form of self gratification that there can be, if you happen to be a realist, and indeed a true winthropper.

Easy there. Even though they had 2 wins, our women's program has seen a pretty prolonged effect from their Sweet 16 run and Big South tourney runs.
