So Sly....when are you going to start posting stuff about 9th graders. 2011 is a little ways down the road, don't you think??

Hmmmmmmmm A player from Charlotte Christian, and Greenburg is on him like a cheap suit as a 10th grader.

He is destined to shrink 6 inches and develop a Chuck Knaublach style phobia about shooting a basketball.

The NCAA just approved college coaches receruiting 7th graders. So I think a soph is fair game.

South Carolina freshman forward Anthony Gill (Fr.; F; 6-8; 225; Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian) has been granted permission to contact other NCAA institutions to discuss a potential transfer, Gamecock head coach Frank Martin announced on Friday. The permission to contact was not restrictive to specific institutions.

Gill saw action in all 31 contests during his freshman campaign in 2011-12 at South Carolina with 26 starts on the year. He averaged 7.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 25.3 minutes per game. Gill posted seven double-figure scoring games and led or shared the team lead in scoring five times and in rebounding six times.

Would Gill have to sit out a year, like what SC did at Duke?

Yes. But that would be the case if he transferred to any DI school. Then he'd have three years of eligibility remaining.

You're going to type that mess and call someone else dumb?

While I think he' be quite the get, I can't see him passing up the opportunity to play at the schools listed a few posts above.

We have our connections down in Charlotte though. Hoping Layer goes to work!

Didn't a Radford guy say there was 0 chance that Baird would ever sign with us because some bigger schools were recruiting him?

How that worked out is the kid tore his ACL in his first official day of practice. That does not mean it wasn't a good get for us. Everything I heard is he was looking great in workouts before he got hurt. I still believe he can have a good career here if he decides to stay.

As far as Gill is concerned, the only connection I see to LU is that he went to the same HS as SC and he has the same last name as our football coach. Curry was 100% a McKay recruit, so I don't think Layer has any big in at Charlotte Christian.

Layer did coach at Queens college in Charlotte for what it's worth.

I think all of this speculation is just because we think somebody is coming in that we don't know about yet. And now we know a guy that we were recruiting and didn't sign 1 coaching regime ago, is now transferring. I really don't know one way or the other but I think it was just a shot in the dark.

Or he could go to Radford which nobody has ever heard of except for having the highest rate of venereal diseases...

Probably not a lot. This kid was 5 years old when Layer left the area, and Queens is a D2 program. He may retain some relationships with a few area coaches, and player's parents may remember him.

I wondered about that. Coach Gill isn't his long lost uncle or cousin, is he?

Somebody needs to shake that family tree or find a link on geneology.com. How about it, BJ?
