I heard that Chris Summers is going to start playing. I don't know how reliable my source is but it is interesting considering our recent red-shirts.

I think he should be working on his fade routes instead.

Well, considering that football players aren't usually allowed by Coach Rocco to play other sports, maybe he's abandoning the fade route in favor of the fast break?

I am excited about this, if it's happening. I happened to bump into Chris in the airport after Thanksgiving break and he told me he has always wanted to play basketball. I am happy for him if he's getting his chance.

then he'd have to use a bball scholly we don't have if he wasn't also playing football. But come on, he's a foot taller than everybody else and he couldn't come down with 2 TD catches vs Elon. Come on!

It's possible that Rocco and Skaliski feel he can benefit from playing basketball. There are a couple of pretty good pass catching tight ends in the NFL who credit playing college basketball as great preparation for being a football receiver.

6'4 and pretty skinny but athletic as crap.

Made the all-state team or something like that in Florida when he was in high school.

He's still playing football. It seems that Rocco will allow players to play a second sport on a case by case basis. I'm guessing as long as the individual is keeping his grades up and understands that football comes first, its ok...

Sweet. Thanks for the info. He has a ton of potential in football, so I hope he pans out in that, and in basketball.

Before there are the typical FlameFans Incredible Expectations put on the kid, remember he hasn't played competitively in two years, is not in basketball shape, and doesn't know the system yet. There'll be a transition period for him.

My expectations aren't that high. I would be happy if he could give a just a solid 10 minutes per game down the stretch as an adequate sub for our starters just to give those guys a little rest. We're going to need that at tourney time. Anything more than that would be a HUGE bonus.

Right SJ. While I hope he is able to contribute in games at some point, his main contribution may end up being another D1 caliber athlete to give us a full compliment for 5 on 5 in practice.

The more I think about it though, I believe playing hoops (even in practice) could really help his game as a WR. Boxing out and going up for rebounds, posting on offense or (if we are lucky enough) going up for the occasional alley oop all are skills which will translate across sports.

I think that's the biggest thing.

Word from practice today was that he was shooting decent when he was by himself but not was a little shaky with a guy in his face which is to be expected this early. He had some really nice rebounds and wasn't afraid to get in there and bang to get them and he had a nice interception on a pass that led to an easy layup.

I guess when you go from getting hit by Nick Hursky and Ryan Greiser everyday to battling guys for rebounds it's not nearly as scary going against a guy bigger than you anymore.

Haha, he's grown an inch and gained ten pounds since football season.

He's listed as 6'5 200 on his basketball bio.

All of his recruiting profiles coming out of HS listed him at 6'6, so I was surprised to see him at 6'4 on the football roster. He looks bigger than that to me.

Yeah, I thought he was 6'6" too. Someone may have fudged some numbers. I mean, Smitty is not 6'5". And Larry Blair was always listed a lot taller than he really was. It happens in the pros too. Shaq was 7'1" one year, then 7'2" the next year, the back to 7'1" the next season. Did he shrink? No, it was just a fudged number.

Duh. It happens in every single sport at every single level. Always list players taller and heavier than they really are. FACT
