The preseason team reports have arrived! The report is given in three segments, Getting Inside, Strategy and Personnel, and Notes and Quotes. Have fun reading!

Some nice quotes from Sportsline include:

"A top-50 recruiting class is nearly unheard of in low-major basketball, and Curry isn't the only young talent gracing the Flames' roster."

"Add to that mix the return of wing Anthony Smith, who was voted the preseason player of the year in the Big South, and the Flames have the talent to make a run at the title in the rebuilding Big South. It's just a matter of how quickly the new talent melds together."

The following quote being my personal favorite:

"The coach's openly Christian background works well at Liberty, which was founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell. The recruiting class opened eyes across the country, and the Flames should be a player in the league race for years to come."

The article references 5 separate players (Curry, Brolin, Carter, Jesse, & Smitty), but NOT a single mention of TYLER BAKER.

Interesting, since Carter will get the least amount of minutes for a scholly player

You think so? I can't imagine Carter NOT getting at least 15 minutes or so by default...because we're so paper thin.

If I had to guess who would get the least amount of time as a scholly player it would be Weaver. Then again, I haven't seen them practice yet, but I'm just going by what I've heard from various reports including coach's.

Click on the "Strategy and personell" link and you'll see that they have TB listed as a starter along with Smitty, Floyd, Curry and Ohman.

As far as us being thin this year............................................. are you kidding? In experience and sheer weight maybe, but as far as talent and depth are concerned we much better off than last year. We may struggle with youth, but there will be real competition for PT, and we will have depth.

Weaver looked very athletic in practice. And there is no way Carter gets the least amount of minutes among scholarship players. And for the record, Scar and I were talking and he looks much bigger than 6' 10" on the floor.

FIFY

On a serious note, here is the UNDERSTATEMENT of the year:
WEAKNESSES
Liberty lost all-conference C Alex McLean, and the big guys who must replace him -- Tyler Baker and Carter McMasters -- are not exactly low-post bruisers.

Was he facing away or towards the basket when you saw him playing?

More away than towards during what I saw. Austin will be a very pleasant surprise to many fans when they see him working inside. He's got the build and desire to bang.

PROBABLE STARTING LINEUP
G Seth Curry, G Kyle Ohman, F Anthony Smith, F Brolin Floyd, F Tyler Baker
If that's the lineup, who is the point--Curry? My money is on Curry at the 2 with Jesse at the point.

My sentiments exactly, CJ.

That's cuz he's talking about our men's basketball team, not our wheelchair basketball team.

And who does Sanders replace in that lineup?

I'm not sure who gets the honors of starting, but Austin Smith is going to get a bunch of minutes based on how I saw him looking in practice. He'll earn the minutes. It is way too early to tell how the starting lineup will shake out as they have been practicing just a few days.

I've only seen them practice once, but I really like:

Curry
Brolin
Jesse

And of course, we know Smitty is starting.

I think Jesse will eventually start and it will be Ohman coming off the bench but seeing plenty of minutes, which IMHO is a good role for him.

You wait until you see Ohman penetrating to the hole like a man on a mission....he may never sit....did you know thats the best part of his game?

I don't doubt that Kyle has diversified his game, or that he will have a good year. Starting is overrated anyway, but I like having a true point (Sanders) as a starter, and we all know Curry is not coming off the bench. I think Ohman will be excellent in a Havlicek style 6th man role.
