ANN ARBOR -- Jeff Meyer could possibly land back in a familiar position.
According to ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman, the Michigan assistant coach is "in the equation" for the vacant head coaching position at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where Meyer previously served as head coach for 16 years.

I'm a big Michigan fan (went to the title game a few years back in Atlanta), and was at Liberty in the mid 90's. I about crapped my pants when I read this yesterday.
Back in the late 90's, I was part of the crowd yelling "Fire Meyer". When looking back, Meyer wasn't that bad. Yeah, he seemed to do a poor job at developing talent, but he wasn't terrible by any means. I've watched him since he started working with Indiana, and now the past 7-8 years at Michigan. IMHO, I don't think Liberty could get anyone better to jump start their program again than Meyer. Basketball has changed BIG TIME since the mid 90's, and we now are in the era of "one and dones". IMO, this gives an advantage to the little guy conferences (Witcha States, Butlers, Gonzagas) because now they are bringing 7-8 Jr's and Sr's to play against a big conference team that is dominated by 18-19 yr old freshman.
Jeff Meyer is considered by many people to be in the top 25 of all assistant coaches in the NCAA. Here is an article I read recently that talked about him.

Jeff Meyer has been coaching college basketball for over 30 years. In Meyer’s six years at Michigan he has served as the Wolverines recruiting coordinator and offensive coordinator. Meyer's tenure as a collegiate basketball coach has seen him instruct and mentor several professional basketball players, including Los Angeles Lakers guard Darius Morris (Michigan), New Orleans Pelicans guard Eric Gordon (Indiana), Boston Celtics forward D.J. White (Indiana) and Toronto Raptors forward Linas Kleiza (Missouri).
Last year Meyer helped land three top 100 ESPN recruits including five star forward Zak Irvin, and he has already landed another top 100 player from the class of 2014 in Cameron Chatman.
If Liberty stands a chance of really turning things around, they need a proven recruiter with a resume of developing NBA talent. Meyer has both, and has had been at his best the past 5 years at Michigan. If I'm Liberty, I pay as much as is necessary to get him back, even if he only stays 5-6 years. With his recruiting connections, he could easily turn Liberty into a top 3 BSC school, and probably tournament team in just a year or two. It doesn't take long in college basketball if you can get a few underrated 3* kids, and maybe a 4* kid to come to your team. I think Meyer could get those kids in his first real recruiting classes, especially now that Liberty has really changed it's facilities since Meyer left. Their facilities are really a plus now for recruiting IMO. I think Meyer has learned A LOT since leaving, and would be a GREAT guy to bring back to Lynchburg. Just my two cents.
